No doubt a masterpiece of tech and engineering. But all of the action shots show it to have the handling prowess of my ute, Sideways at every corner.
I will never get why journalists need to adopt the 'jeremy clarkson' school of demonstrating speed with big sideways action. Its not fast and illustrates a poorly handling car, when speed is the goal.
watch any motorsport bar rally et al and notice how drivers try and maintain the car straight rather than wild oversteer, as it produces slow laptimes and is tyre damaging.
I deliberately ignore drift as its a bit like figure dancing so not a motorsport it seems to require a qualatitive assesment to 'judge' a winner. Ohh hang on.
Journalists are catering to the playstation drifter (and probably having a hoot doing it)
Great car no doubt.

Chris Harris is one of the most respected journalists in the motoring industry.
He has driven and raced many a car that most will never ever get to even come close to.
Comparing his driving to one JC is frankly an insult to the man.

As for the McLaren, I wouldn't be so quick to judge its handling on such a review. Being able to complete a sub 7 min 'ring time isn't something to snigger at.

But I do agree, the sliding of cars around is getting old.

I dont really think my ute handles as well
and I believe it to be a brilltiant car, not the ute!
Just typical of sensationalism.
Never come across Mr Harris, or maybe just not noticed but I cant read so?

I believe it's a product of the filming technique/camera filters used.

I've noticed that LED lights flicker when the camera is running at high fps. Must be a refresh rate clash or something. I've seen it in episodes of Top Gear as well.

I am pretty sure the LEDs are run at a given frequency, which amongst other things allows them to be "overdriven" but not melt down as if they may when driven at 100% duty, so the flicker you see sometimes is just the flicker syncing or near enough to the shutter speed they used.

It's an incredible car for sure. Apparently "it's a whole new thing"

Now that's how to do a hybrid.

Why can't regular car makers do this?

Doesn't have to act or look like a super car, just similar petrol/electric engine setup.

Awesome.

Great OP, thanks for posting.

Koeniggsegg (I am sure I spelt it wrong) is also my go, love these wild kind of cars. Like a poster ^^ the Veyron is boring (but i'd have one, yes I would...haha) in comparison for mine.

You might be right or they may do it for ratings, everyone loves a sideways car...Dont they?

That's the one thing that annoys me about shows like Top Gear...they actually don't like a car that is settled, refined, and capable of carving smoothly through a corner with maximum traction and speed while staying perfectly on line. Unless it can waste time and tyres sliding through a corner (you know, like everyone does out on the road in real life driving every day...), there's something wrong with it.
A while ago Clarkson complained bitterly about one car (can't remember the make, was some exotic supercar) on which they couldn't turn off the highly sophisticated traction and stability control which meant no matter how fast you chucked it into a corner, it just stuck like glue and didn't get out of shape. They had to do stupid things to get it to come unstuck and slide for the camera and even then it tried to get things back under control again.

A friend had a home made poster on his wall some years back, with a simple line drawing overhead view of a corner with one line drawing of one car drifting, and another car ahead of it on the track taking a normal apex cutting line, with coloured lines showing the wheel tracks of each vehicle...looked pretty much like a diagram in a road rules book.
The slogan on the poster said "Oh...you like drifting? That's fine...while you're busy back there concentrating on doing that, I'll be up ahead here accelerating..."

That was the one...he seemed honestly annoyed and frustrated that it would just smoothly and cleanly carve up the bends like it was on rails pulling stupid lateral G-forces, yet didn't ever get out of shape despite the awesome power on tap.
Sorry, but that is the very feature that would attract me to it, as opposed to something like the Mercedes SL63 Black that even Clarkson admitted had a bit too much power and would lunch it's tyres after a lap or so...
