My IQ???? Have you read my post?

Where the hell did I say it wasn't very good?

I have not decided anything yet. When I read a post from a guy who works on the floor saying "you get out what you put in, which Ford are showing will be zero" that doesn't fill me with confidence in dropping $40 - $50K on a new car especially if it might be a lemon.

He's talking about the level of development put into the car, not how it will be built.

Do you think Holden has handled it any better, begging for Fed funds, then when that wasn't forthcoming they pull up shop. The same mob that received more then Toyota and Ford combined in the last 10 years. Maybe if Holden didn't get the extra cash, they couldn't have offered the level of discounts on their cars which directly hurt their opposition. VF sales haven't saved Holden from staying and Ford's decision to close didn't affect Holden in any way apart from being second to taking the tough decision. Do you honestly think waiting 48hours or even a week would have any effect on VF launch or sales.
If the people at Ford didn't care about the effect on Holden, why did Graziano ring and apologise?

It doesn't matter what I think, all that matters is what the general buying public and the workers at the respective manufacturers think.

As it stands today Ford are building 500 units a month, Holden are producing 4000 units. The production line at Ford is barely moving, At Holden they are getting overtime.
Wether Holden went about it right or not is irrelevant, what they have done is support their product and workforce and that is irrefutable.

I ask of you, how would waiting 48hrs have caused the Ford workforce any further hardship?
waiting 48hrs to make an announcement when you plan on giving 1000 days notice is hardly going to make a difference in the long run.
It would be no different to announcing shutdown on the September 29th 2016 as opposed to the 1st of October 2016.

Lets hear from the members who work at Ford, what would they prefer, badge allegiance aside.
Would they prefer to work for an employer that has rolled over and died, or one that is still pumping out enough units to keep its entire current workforce in work.

Stop looking at it through rose coloured glasses, its no longer about badges, its about which employer is standing by its Aussie workforce and the answer to that is undeniably evident.

The only thing Ford have done is appeared to care, when in fact, despite the 3 year plan, they will quite likely fold well before the opposition.

Talk is cheap, proof is in the pudding.

I was thinking only falcon at the time, but then I was factoring in the Cruze for Holden too so I stand corrected.

The Commodore component still smashes the Falcon 5 to 1.

Look, don't get the wrong idea, I am a enthusiast who leans heavily towards the blue team, but im also a realist and view the business decision/tactics surrounding this situation and I can tell you, Holden may be morally wrong, but ask their employees, and I do weekly, and they are very upbeat about what has happened.
On the other hand we have members here who work for Ford and were very upbeat upon the initial decision and have since, clearly lost confidence by the tone of some recent posts, if my interpretation is correct.

What has happened at Holden is relevant to me as they are in my backyard and I socialise with past and present staff and management at plant level.
When you know your job is gone and there's nothing you can do about it, survival kicks in and you milk it for all its worth.

They still need to meet post-sale requirements, you'll still be able to buy spare parts for them.

Even Mitsubishi still build parts here...

When I said that I was referring to sales, marketing and promotion of the new model, not anything else. They will still be built the same way and parts supplies will continue long after it is gone. If anything quality should be improved as there is plenty of time to make sure everything is right before it leaves the factory, and there has been a bigger effort to ensure it is right before it does.

Just that Ford will do next to nothing to promote actually selling the thing.

Quote:

This is my thought: Going public asap before it leaked out was the only way to go. And it would have leaked out. Imagine the backlash if some skunk in the media got wind, or it's announced on the Rumour File on 3AW and then Ford had to come out and confirm it, the bad press and PR would have been far worse then what eventuated and their workforce would have been even more upset/angry hearing it from their bosses after it got out in the media. Or if for the umpteenth time the US brass are harassed by the local press asking when did you decide to close the Aust. ops and it gets out that is was 6 months before the staff/public found out.
There is no "good way" and I personally feel when you have no positive news to give it's better to set out the facts asap and be totally honest.

Just to continue the reasonable discussion, maybe I could ask you: If you are a Ford worker and found out that Ford Aust held over their closure announcement for a week, or a month even, so Holden could have clear air for their VF launch how would you feel?...I'd be bloody angry.

Hang on, we've gone from 48hrs to a week or a month.

Personally I couldn't care less, if my jobs gone my jobs gone, nothing I can do about it.
As for finding out a month later, at least its 30 less sleepless nights to overcome.

You're lucky you feel that way, some will feel even more stress knowing their job is gone, some will feel relief that the speculation ends. One thing is certain, car manufacturing won't ever come back, sadly. And I'm trying to see how I can get away with buying the next G6ET.

I dunno. If the supplier network can remain strong after they go, whats to say there won't be another startup of some kind. Not a foreign owned one. Especially with the advent of 3D printing. Though i suspect the component suppliers plea for assistance will also fall on deaf ears. Oh well nice to dream...

In Melb. I've heard radio ads for Ford on upto 3 sations, am & fm for over 3 months constantly and regularly. Should say I watched S of A and didn't notice one ad, switched off instantly until the show returned, lol,

The Territory ad is getting heaps of airtime in NZ currently, shame it is so annoying, they should have just redone the original one.

I don't think that any of the cars I ever bought were advertised on TV . Does tv advertising work ? For me - no but I accept it might work for some categories of cars and population .

Yes, advertising is divvied up by region. It's not national.

I don't watch much tv but I catch Ford ads fairly often. Fair few Ford 'testimonial' ads on the radio too here in Vic.

I have been seeing a fair amount of Ecosport advertising in QLD.

Ford is still advertising, just not Falcon. This is no suprise considering they are transitioning to importer only status.

Exactly!
With the advent of PVR's, more and more people don't even watch TV adds anyway.
