So sitting watching the Good Friday burnouts at Perth Motorplex. Enjoying watching the Holdens catching fire .
Conversation: what do you think the ultimate burnout car would be? Friend suggests something short wheelbase and RWD, an Escort with a blown 351. I think maybe a 6R4 Metro with only RWD. Maybe a Cosworth Sierra. Then I think of the 4 wheel steering cars that were popular some time ago. Maybe an old 4WS Skyline with just power to rear wheels. I know at low speed the rear wheels went opposite to the fronts and high speeds the same. So I don't know where the speed sensors were. If your doing a burnout you would want the rear wheels going in opposite direction to the fronts. Friend says too hard to control. I don't think so. Anyone seen a 4WS burnout? Be interested in thoughts for an ultimate burnout car? |

What makes you think you must have a powerful car for burnouts?
In 1982 at Calder I seen 1967 stock standard valiant station wagon doing one of the best burnouts ever until he blew a tyre, could not see him at the end due to so much smoke. |

Well most Skylines are RWD so it can't be much of an issue as all the power is already sent to the rears.
The system you're thinking of is HICAS and a lot of people lock it out with a bar to disable it. Personally I think what type of car is irrelevant. Just depends on what would you prefer to look at and hear while they do it for the most part : |

I'd rule out 4WS, as if you are building the ultimate burnout car. your most likely be building a tuff as nails rear end, doing away with the factory diff and axels...

I'd like to set up betting odds on the mang portion of burnouts - What will blow first, a tyre or the radiatior hose? Place your bets.

I agree you don't need huge amounts of power to do burnouts but watching the blown cars is usually more entertaining. Possibly one of the best burnout I have ever seen was from an N/A XD.
Love the blown Aston |

I nearly wet myself laughing as there was more smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe than off the bloody tyres.

I've seen a burnout comp where a stock Datsun 1600 flogged every thing!! Even the V8s had nothing on this thing!! you don't need big power to do a burnout!!! So long as the motor was decent and had a decent radiator and an automatic with a bloody big external cooler. I'd be happy

whatever car it is doesn't matter as long as you have tyre speed and don't keep bouncing off the rev limiter or changing gears when you loose power. sure a 4 or 6cyl can do a burnout but the sound of the blower on an 800+ hp car coming at you is where its at.
has to run on meth so its doesn't overheat and you have to use new tyres and not those coloured ones they run out of smoke to soon. i got a vid of blwnlux on friday i'll post on youtube and link here.....that was awesome
