From what I've read, you make tunes at various ethanol ratings - one on straight 98 (or whatever), one on E85, and a few between. The e-Flex sensor tells the ECU what % of ethanol there is, and then the fuel map for the relative amount of ethanol is used.

I get all that - just can't figure out how you can determine % ethanol from this sensor. I assume some kind of conductivity or resistivity measurements?

Ford's ecu pulls spark based on a knock event, it does not change to a different fuel map, it does not allow for the use of a flex fuel sensor to change fuel or spark maps based on ethanol percentages.

So far the E85 performance improvement is great, I like it. I am noticing the fuel gauge dropping faster, which I don't like.

For the slightly better power, I don't think the extra fuel use makes the fuel worthwhile for street use. I might try one more tank fill, but after that I'll only use it for strip use.

I've been using E85 for about two months now. Can't say I've noticed an increase in HP though I haven't retuned. Mileage has been slightly better but that may be due to more highway driving. I have however noticed more exhaust steam in the mornings but again that could be due to the cooler nights?
