Just noticed this story in today's Australian.

Typical tardy dealership/manufacturer response but the article only mentions one Caprice with the valve problem so I wouldn’t regard that as epidemic or a reflection of the GM engine's reliability as a whole.
If that’s the case you could say the same of the XR8 supercharger in the thread that is currently receiving a lot of comments. One off engine failures are upsetting for the customer but the lack of response from the dealership/manufacturer that is the real telling tail.

You may very well be right. I just tied Caprice and V8 together thinking who would want a V6 caprice. On reading the article again, no where does it say V8. I was not aware of the carbon deposit problems in the V6 SIDI motors. Which reinforces the view, if you are going to buy a VF Commodore, get the V8.

Not so much the mechanical failure but the manufacturer/dealer failure.
It does not matter how long the warranty is if the maker won't come to the party then the warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on. Warranty is just another piece of marketing spin that is worthless without strong consumer protection laws and an enforcement body that has teeth.
