Default What happened to Performance Wheels??

Just wondering what happened to Performance wheels?? The web site is still there, but the numbers are disconnected, then yesterday I heard a rumour that they have closed their doors.

http://www.performancewheels.com.au/Home/Home.asp

Anyone know what happened??

They made the iconic Challenger rims as well as many others.

Was about to order some Challengers for my XB ute, and now they are no longer available

I hope they haven't closed! They make the best looking aftermarket globe wheel out there IMO.

Seems strange, I am guessing having trouble competing with cheap Chinese made imported crap wheels.

This is something we will regret in the long run, so many Aussie Companies closing their doors, as people are not willing to pay for quality.

I'd rather pay 2-3 times more for an Aussie made product cause the quality is superior to the Chinese.
And the jobs stay here imagine how many jobs 1 wheel can have the guy that supplies the material the guy that machine's it and the delivery guy.
The same thing happened with redback exhaust's they nearly shut down cause of cheap Chinese crap then they bounced back once customers started returning to them after the crap exhausts only lasted 6 months.

^^^not picking on you directly... But you say you would pay 2 or 3 times more for an Australian made product... But when it comes time to open your wallet... Would you really? Problem is most people aren't prepared to pay more, that's the problem.

I think that is the problem, most people would not.

I just want two 15x7 Challengers, happy to pay the right price but no luck

they weren't even expensive, I bought a set of 15x7 superlites from them in 2013 and the cost was under a grand delivered. Anyone who thinks that's expensive should probably consider another hobby.

Mmmm ... Superlites ... I've got them on both my Javelins

I'd love it if they built them in 17" in the "new" style.

Will be trying that shortly, I have no hurry, car currently has 15x8 Challengers all round, I want to change the front ones to 15x7's, I prefer 7" front rims on the front of XB's have been using them since the late 80's on various cars, they seem to work better, ride better, and most of all no clearance issues.

I would cause I want to support local manufacturing and everything I buy I try to buy local saves the stuffing around when it comes time to return something broken or the wrong part is sent I've dealt with chinese warranty before and will never do it again horrible

They are all cleared already, I spoke to the guy a while back, he has none left.

I have however been in contact with a guy who knows a guy who is married to to the second cousin of someone who my distant uncle once met at a swap meet back in the mid 80's who has half a container load of them left, but I won't reveal my source till I have secured my ones. Will be doing so hopefully later today or tomorrow after I learn the secret hand shake

But seriously I have found some, and they should be mine shortly

I think they will be going up in value now, especially good ones.

I just want a set for one of my cars, but hopefully it's all sorted.

Were they even making wheels in Australia? most "Aussie" manufactureres get stuff made off-shore anyway these days.

I sold the Challengers off my XA years ago, IMO Globes look a heap better.

Not sure about speedy wheels going up in value, people no longer buy 15" wheels, if they do, they will be globes, torque thrusts or simmons.

Challengers have always been a popular wheel especially on coupes, some like them some don't , not keen on the price of Globes.

There are plenty of people chasing challengers at the moment, especially Ford stud pattern ones in good condition.

There is already a slight premium being charged for NOS ones.

I believe they were made here, as when I spoke to the guy who knows a guy, who's cousin's brother in law owned the company, he informed me that his sisters nephew heard that word on the street is that Performance Wheels factory was bought/sold for 4 million $$$ and that the wheels will start to be made in China, as wheels have been send over to be copied and made there.

So I am guessing one of these days we will differentiate between Aussie made and Chinese made Challenger Wheels.
