Fords "go further" ad tells you nothing about the cars. Holden's does.

My missus who knows nothing about cars asked if all car makers are currently having a competition to see who can make the worst TV ads.

He started the thread, which you decided to join in on. I think he is entitled to comment in it.

Seems like the advertising company for Ford Aus are targeting people who know nothing about cars and don't want to know.
As long as it gets you from a to b, and the radio can change stations without touching a button.
And this is probably a growing majority of the population.
Funny though how Mercedes,Audi, and BMW all sell on the driving experience.

Yeah maybe they have in some peoples eyes, not every ones. Yeah ford is far from perfect i admit that. But as for advertising the falcon, why? Its a dead horse no point spending money on something that isnt going to be around in 12mths time. Yeah they should have done more in the past but didnt.

The look on that little girls face (and the majority of people in Australia) in 20 years time when they realize they sold out Aussie jobs and cant afford an exciting new "World Class Car" because we are a country full of unemployed consumers!!

Now thats a future I wanna see!!!

Both ford and holdens ads are ridiculous. Everyone knows the opels that holden rebadge are piles of crap but at least they are still advertising their last aussie built cars. I have not seen 1 ford falcon add in WA since they announced production was closing. Very disappointed. Only those arrogant ford ranger ads over here that really annoy me

Look at the sales figures next time you think we were sold out...

I would say all of the above. I know we cant always buy Australian made, but I try and make a concious decision to do just that. Its killed our car industry by having a wide choice and cheaper cars, and some would think that is ok,....but was is the next industry (or industries) to fall by the wayside?? A lot of cheaper choices of building materials are flooding the market, putting Aussie manufacturers in jeopardy. FArmers are doing it hard because they cant sell there crops because big market players are bringing in imported food thats cheaper and wider choice.........!!!! Shall I go on?

These threads always go the same way. The small 'L' liberals believe individual choice and globalism will combine to create many new models that will suit the individual, and many new opportunities in life and work (and they are right for jobs exist that were a dream 20 years ago and incredible choice is available now); while the more nationalist among us see that destroying our manufacturing base as it currently exists is a huge mistake citing perhaps the US, UK or EU, as it will lower the standard of living for many and be replaced by QE, financialisation and eventually EBT (and they are right too, for it is happening and we can see it as we speak).

It's a brave new world, we must continue to adapt, forces unleashed are bigger than all of us. If your idea finds favour and you work hard and do well, your choice of car will be from the finest vehicles the globe offers. And just to be flippant at the end of my post, an old Falcon GT or GS will have more value than it after 5 years...

Maybe only worth something in the short term Aussie market and only maybe as the market is a flood with Aussie performance cars.

In the long term those ‘finest vehicles the globe offers’ could end up having international collector appeal where the Aussie plastic won’t get a look in and then let’s see what is worth what.

Don’t put your blinkers on when it comes to the cars Aussie collectors are chasing as they are after more than those that were manufactured locally.

The truth is even in Australia only a small handful of Aussie muscle cars compete locally for the big dollars against the more collectable international cars.

Most old Aussie cars can be bought for half the price of a new one.

Could also be the fact that most other countries subsidise the crap out of their industries. American citrus, and Chinese wheels are just two examples.

In anyones opionion - Would it really make any difference at all even if both Ford and Holden had the best ads anyone has ever seen for cars? Would good advertising have saved them?

Ford did have the best advertisement for a car and it didn't save them. (actually the ad just got banned)

I wonder if the 7 eco boost Falcons which actually sold even covered the cost of making that ad?

Of course it would. Don't we know thats all you need. Good ads. Holden have good ads (apparently) and look at them. Going to continue to build cars in Australia for ever. All because the ads are GREAT!!
