'Estimated' price
Dunno lets just slap $100,000 on it, sounds about right! The Genesis is about the same size as the Falcon? The Equus is their LWB variant of the Genesis. |

You cannot compare a Genesis to a Falcon.
The Genesis is on par with a BMW 5 series or E class when it comes to Tech. The Falcon is stuck in 2008. |

Secondly, whilst the level of tech in the Genesis may be up there with a 5 series or E-class, the build quality and refinement of the wannabe Lexus has some way to go to match the German pair. |

Dunno why we're even bothering discussing this as it's not even available here and most likely won't be.
BTW, I've seen maybe half a dozen or Genesis (Genesii?) on the road. Only noticed them as they are quite rare.

I saw one the other day & my first impressions was that from the rear it looked like a Bentley, but then I realised it was too small

I thought Mazda had released a bigger brother to 6 when one came up behind me at the lights. I couldn't make out the nose badge in the mirror, but it reminded me of a Chrysler badge. Couple of sets later and it was diagonally in front of me in the turn bay, then I realised it was a Genesis - a distinct lack of Hyundai badges on the one I saw (a hire car with NSW HC plates on it).

They are large on the road. Look bigger than falcon. They are not a handsome car....quite conservative looking. Very communist "dictator" transport styling. Will be difficult for Hyundai to justify the extra coin over the V6.

Yes But Toyota realised if you want to play with the big boys, you're going to have to create a new exec Brand.
for example Nissan are attempting with Infinity. but its a hard sell, where image is everything.

Its way to expense for that kind of jump in our market.
They should have come in around the 80k, get people into the brand then start to rise the prices. There are plenty of good German cars for sub 100k.

I admire the what Hyundai have done in creating the Genesis. Its a large RWD 6 cylinder sedan, a concept that has fallen out of favour in the last decade. Hyundai could have came to the same result by making it a stretched front drive Sonata ala the new Lincoln Continental but they went the whole hog and made the thing RWD.
Having said all that, it is missing something VITALLY important to a luxury car buyer. THE BADGE. Fairmont Ghia's, Fairlanes, Calais and Caprice's have been replaced for the same money with the far more driveway fashionable Mercedes three pointed star or BMW roundel. The Genesis is a very good car, but the same lack of driveway bragging rights and badge cred will seal its fate as nothing more than a hire car to replace Caprice's.

V8 is not coming to OZ - if it did , it could be a decent option for a large V8 sedan with 313kW . Even 3.3 V6 twin turbo is running nearly XRT numbers. It would depend on how they price it of course .
Current one is not selling as it is only available in V6 NA. |

I`d be fairly annoyed if i could hear wind noise in my 2016 "flagship model" at 100 k`s that i paid a lot of money for, it probably is a good car , but still if i was paying a good wad of moola i would expect it to be at least dead quiet.

There will be the select few customers out there that aren't badge buyers who just want a level of luxury around german levels but without forking out the coin for it. I was looking at them with interest when they came out at first, in my eyes they're a nice looking car and not bad for the price.
I think a lot of people underestimate brands like Hyundai and Kia. I'd say they'll be the ones to watch as the big boys (Ford AU and Holden) fall out. |

First was a Hyundai Sonata V6 that the boss had in Darwin some 20 years ago-piece of crap compared to my old Cortina TE 4.1 with alloy head. I was in South Africa in January and went big game viewing in the gameparks in Kruger Park and the surrounding reserves, and we had a vw people mover. The VW was pretty good in terms of steering and dynamics, but was diesel and gutless. Then got a Hyundai people mover for the drive from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, and it was crap-bad brakes, gutless, handling awful-just HATED it- VW so much better, another level of engineering dynamics. Then got Hyundai i30 for driving round Cape Town and drove up to go cage diving with great white sharks at Hermanis, was not too bad, just gutless and the brakes were uhmm less than inspiring ....ok for $27,000 odd- but for me-$100,000 for Hyundai- no thanks, for that money I want german engineering, or a vehicle that has pedigree with engineering sophistication and refinement.

Big Damo, when we go to the polls later this year to vote for our federal representatives, I am going to add a box, label it Big Damo and tick it. I just hope you realise that with great power, you need a great ride.
Introducing the Hyundai Genesis; for all great dictators... |
