In that case I’m happy to be stupid. A few short articles for you to read. This ones from the RAQC – It says a matter of minutes. From air conditioning to 40 degrees in in as little as 7 minutes can kill. http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/cars/safer_cars/safety_fact_sheets/dangers_of_leaving_children_in_hot_cars This is from the NRMA – It says research has shown on a 30 degrees C day the temperature in the car can be as high as 70 degrees C. It says 75% of the temperature increase occurs within 5 minutes and that it can reach 78 degrees in a closed car and 70 degrees with the windows open. http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring-services/education/children/hot-cars.htm This from the ABC – Says it’s like putting a gun to your child’s head. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-01-15/11-children-left-locked-in-cars-during-victorias-extreme-heat/5200744 There are hundreds of references on the web to the idiotic practice of locking children in cars as it’s not a phenomenon known only to Australia. In NSW the fine for leaving a child locked in a car is up to $22,000. Someone is stupid and it makes you wonder who. / Last edited by LoudPipes; 02-09-2014 at 02:23 AM. Reason: Can't spell. |

After all, you need to have a license to drive, to fly, to be married, to practice law or medicine, to operate heavy equipment; why shouldn't there be a license based on your ability to care for a child, nurture it and provide for it? Far too many idiots are having children as a means to get welfare, some areas in Australia have become welfare capitals and the selfish bastards who call themselves parents just don't care. License them, if no license then give the child up to adoption and at least give it a chance at having a loving home. As for idiots locking kids in cars - no excuse. It's more about your convenience than anything else, as getting kids in and out takes time. Stop being selfish and do the right thing. This summer, I plan to carry a nice big hammer in the car to smash any window on any car with a child locked inside.

In both cases, it comes down to a couple of simple outcomes...you might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later you have a very good chance of slipping up, making a mistake, and death could well be the outcome. The difference is in one case it's only your own stupid self you're killing, in the other it's a little kid who has no choice in the matter. Is your busy busy lifestyle really that hectic you can't spare a couple of extra minutes? Quote:

I shall resist the urge to call you what you are (on this matter) and simply say that you would not willingly lock yourself in a hot car for five or ten minutes, but then expect a child with a lesser constitution to put up with that same situation...

lets not forget you might have a kid like me.
leave me in a car an there was a good chance you would see said car rolling down the road/driveway/shopfront/river. Happened twice to my mum and a couple of other times to relative that didnt know i could do it. I must have been about 3 or 4. My mum still talks about how scary it was seeing her 4 year old behind the wheel with a 1 year old and 2 year old in their baby seats rolling past as she was talking to a neighbour. then i figured out how to use the old man lighter - but i'll save that for another time |

How many times has there been stories of child abduction? I for one would never be happy leaving a child in a car for any period of time, if I need to get petrol I simply get someone else to go in the car with me, and they can mind the kids when I go into the store with the engine - Air Conditioning running. Not saying in this instance there's imminent danger of theft or abduction and I admit the numbers of these occurrences are small but these occurrences do happen. You do what you feel prudent to do but don't whinge when someone smashes your window on the day you were perhaps a little remiss.

I have three kids (all under 5) In summer if my wives car needs petrol I will take it out and fill it up (leaving the kids at home with my wife) Personally I wouldn't smash windows at a servo, however shopping centre, casino I would.

A US father has been accused of using the practice of leaving a child in a hot car as a means to commit murder.
Different to someone who leaves their child in the car to go to the shops I know but not much different to spending hours at a casino without the actual intent to injure or kill. It’s almost impossible to believe someone could intentionally do such a thing. Quote:

These things are really good at breaking window glass if need be and fit nicely in the glove box of your car:

While I'm not a big fan of leaving animals and kids in hot cars to die, I'm a bit surprised so many people are driving around with specifically chosen tools to smash other peoples windows

You'd be surprised at how tough side windows can be, I saw a criminal type throw a brick at a side window not too long ago and it bounced off and hit him in the head (karma), leaving the window intact.

I still have no idea how my rear windscreen (71 Falcon) was able to smashed into a zillion pieces many years ago. I came back to my parked car to find the whole thing concaving in towards the back seat. The only suspicion I had was freshly cut lawn close by so all I've got is the possibility of a stone thrown from blades hitting the sweet spot. Wasn't easy finding a good replacement, even then. |

totally agree why lock a kid , or even a pet in a car at any time for any reason
another thing that got my goat about todays episode was the great security guard saving the child smashing a window to get to them but out of all the windows to smash he picked the one that the child was sitting next to showering the child with class

So it's now acceptable to ridicule those with disabilities is it? Once again, you've proven exactly what you are.

they possibly could have chosen a different window to smash, urgency and adrenaline tends to put the blinders on at times. Personally I couldn't care which window they smashed as long as the little one was out of danger
