I know a heap of guys with Hyundai vans and people movers, all of them love them and have had a great run. One of the guys I know that runs the Honda Superbike team tows his sizeable boat with it too, I put the boat in the water for him once and I couldn't believe how well the Hyundai van towed it.

Personally I would be more inclined to trust Hyundai than VW when it comes to reliability after the problems VW have had in recent years like DSG gearbox time bombs etc.

I did my apprenticeship working mostly on all sorts of vans, tell you what if there was two who would take the bottom two positions on the list its the Renault Master and Volkswagen Transporter.

At least the LDV G10 comes with a regular torque converter auto, its already ahead of the pack with their crappy DSG or dodgy automated manual trans.

I noticed duaned said he owned a Transporter without any issues, I absolutely hated working on those vans.

They said the same thing about Hyundai and Kia, look at them now.

Toyota has a good name but the Hiace is a piece of crap, its slow, its uncomfortable to drive and its crap to work on too, it takes the crap trifecta, the only thing it has going for it is its somewhat reliable but even that is questionable.

A Hyundai Iload would be nice, but there are so many reports of Turbo failure and engine failure before the vans hit 30,000kms! In relation to my Transporter, I have been surprised how reliable it has been. Granted it is a manual, but in the 3 years I have had a not a single electrical gremlin or mechanical issue has arised. Touch wood, but once it does have one I know it's going to leave a big hole in my pocket.

I picked up the ranger today. It drives nice and has a much nicer driving position, but I can only fit half the stuff I used to carry in the van in the tray, so I guess it's more trips to the wholesaler for me. It may not be the van I was hoping for, but atleast it is a semi nice work car

After driving the ranger for a few days, I find its a pretty nice thing to drive. It sucks to park though being so much longer then the express, but the extra torque of the little diesel means once your at 60 in 4th, you just stay in 4th up hills no dramas, as opposed to gearing back to 3rd, laboring, slowing back to 40 foot to the floor, dropping back to 2nd etc etc in the express. Haven't quite worked out how to work out of it yet. The canopy windows slide open so you can get into the front of the tray, but it's nothing like being able to slide open the door and dive in like you can in the van. I also have to work out an orginisation system for small things as I don't have shelves anymore. Back to positives... when I got it I thought it was a POS, as it had never been washed since new, although 48k on the clock for a 3 year old car isn't bad. Scrubbed it up, and turns out the thick layer of crud on it protected the paint from scratches, so it came up nice. Ruined my sponge though, and the front wheels took 15 minutes each with a kitchen scouring pad to get through the baked on brake dust. I'd be over the moon if I'd ended up with a new iload or the like, but I'm much happier with the ranger then the many quality doubts I had about the ldv. Also having 3 fords on the driveway gives it consistency. ..

Your boss needs to have a good look at his business priorities! So he's in an x6! Crazy. Get the guys sorted out 1st (efficient & happy) & then the $ will flow.
I own a small elec company in Melbourne & we have 5x transit. I used to worry about parking issues but then worked out that it was better to just pay parking fines rather than lose the guys efficiency when worrying about the van & parking. In the cbd its only $78 for an over the time limit fine, so approx $30-40 more than all day parking. The van can be parked right outside where youre working, saves time and thats the biggest cost in a small business.

And the transits have been great....
I tried the ute / serviice body idea & it didnt work for us.

Anybody mentioned the SsangYong Stavic? Korean made. Good reviews. Reliable. $30k. Small 2.0 diesel, rear wheel drive. 8 seats but these could be removed.

Unfortunately SsangYong don't know how to market cars.

The ldv thing has a really high floor. I looked / wanted one to replace my personal Vito 115 but as soon as I opened the rear door I was disappointed.

Sounds like your boss's landed you in the ranger so it game over. At least it's a million times safer than the old Bits-a-missing.

That said on the van front the Vito or the Transit would be on my list. Hi Ace would be a no go zone owing to the fact that like the L300 your knees form a pry of the crumple zone.

Game over is correct. I'm stuck in the ranger, however it drives good whilst being useless to work out of, and prior to my old l300s existence, one of the old employees had a minor low speed rear ender and it pushed the pedal box up his right shin, which needed a bit of rehab, and the van was written off. But still that van was replaced with another death trap, which I inherited. Now it's in the past and I need to learn to live with the ute of limited use.

I run my own electrical contracting company. I run an straight gas FG cab chassis. I have put a 3 door canopy. I have my 6ft ladder inside the canopy and my 8ft and extension on the roof. Total height with ladders on the roof comes to 2090mm. It's just under 2000mm without. All my tools and material fit in the canopy perfectly, I have a car that feels like I'm driving a normal car and is safe at the same time too. It's annoying the falcon will be killed off this year, but it's the way life goes.

yes the Falcon will be missed, then again I guess in the end people voted with their wallets and preferred duel cabs over the single cab utes. best thing Ford did with its Falcon ute was had a cab chassis option imo. such a good ute for work, think the AU-FG-X Falcon utes will be serving people for work for a long time. just like the HQ-WB Holden one tonners did

I realise it's a done deal now but when you get the chance suggest to your boss to look at a I-Load.
Last June I swapped out of my Econovan into the I-Load.
Kick *** torque that can break traction in second gear.
Heaps of space. 3 seats.
I picked mine up for $1990 plus gst. 2011 model, manual & with almost 10 months factory warranty. Excellent for towing.
Best part is due to being under $20k it is eligible for Joe Hockey"s tax break.
Reduced my taxable income by $20k saving me a lazy $5k in due tax.
Plus it depreciates.

..G'day...We'll see how reliable it is in 2-300,000 kms...That's reliable...If this is where we're heading..God Help Us...I hate Korean cars with as much passion as I love OUR cars..no character..not inspiring...small motors. If going Asian go Japanese..They have the runs on the board ,done the time and at least Japanese do something different..van's no exception...Cheers Rod.

Smashed a window in the canopy today, the passengers side slide window. Not quite sure how, I opened it from the inside, got what I wanted from the outside, jumped back in, closed it, the catch clicked then smash... any ideas on where to get a replacement? I think it's a flexiglass challenger but there is no badge on it and the only hint is the flexiglass logo in the rear glass. This ute is almost ruining my life....

I also work with a mate, who runs an electrical contracting company, commercial solar installations, etc...

One of the employees was driving an early 2000's Hiace van, and complaining about it's crappyness every day.

So...... (at my suggestion) we bought this for him instead.



Got it cheap, then spent $18k refurbishing it, kitting out the back, 4t tow hitch, etc.

It's easily the slowest, thirstiest work vehicle in the fleet.
Yet when Phil's not driving it, everyone else squabbles over the keys.

I reckon it paid itself off in the first month, just from increased productivity.
I'm half looking out for another one now...

Thirsty alright, I've got a 1981 F100 with a Clevo and my 25KM trip mostly at 100kmh it does over 30L/100km.

Matching numbers 302 EFI Windsor in our one.
Straight petrol.
Sounds way better than it has any right to, IMO.

The Colorado does about 12-17ltrs/100km towing a tandem every day, and from reports, the Effie consumption isn't far off that.
(occasionally towing a trailer)

It's a small price to pay, for happy workers.

Went out to get quotes on the canopy window, and the only mob who would touch it was obriens. They quoted upward of 600... stuff that. Took myself to bunnings, bought a sheet of tinted 5mm perspex (which matches the canopy glass exactly, lucky for me), ripped out the metal slider thing for the 3mm glass, got my jiggy out, made my own template, and now she's good as gold. Atleast the perspex won't shatter next time I breathe on it..

I have a LDV G10 on the way, should get it on Thursday. It is a very well built vehicle that actually drives well. My Transporter is now having issues with 4th and 5th gear with the gearbox and the cost to sort that out is huge! Plus the clutch etc. it became a better proposition to replace it after the 4 years I have owned and hammered it. We will see how the LDV stacks up long term. There is not a lot of complaints coming out of europe with the G10 plus a few local buyers ( 1 plumber and 1 air con installer) have moved on from their I-Loads (turbo and injectors ?) and prefer the LDV.

1990 plus gst?? Unbeatable bargain there for the high undies. Only memory of a iLoad was driving an iMax, the passenger version. Horrible van. Absolutely no power (struggled to exceed 80kph), and decided it didn't want to do 110kph downhill and uphill repeatedly coming down from Brisbane to sydney. Check engine light came on and entered limp mode with a v-max of 80kph, engine sounding very rough. Drove it down to sydney airport , hours behind schedule and got offered another iMax. Told them to **** off and not driving another iMax and got a Ford Territory with refund in difference of price .
