hi

just a few questions.

1. whats main things police can defect people for?

2. with tyres what spots have to show tread? and can they be different brands as long as theyre all same size?

3. how do people draw no attention (asking to be stopped) or how do they make it less obvious theres something wrong or dont draw attention for them to check car (or have less problems) when stopped at a rbt on a old car like a newer one?

4. when stopped for rbts how do people make their cars alot less likely be checked when at a rbt? what do people do to their old cars to have less chance of being checked at a rbt like a newer one?

5. at what point is it time to get a newer car, what repairs come up or what does a car do to provide clues its time, and why do most sell them once they need 2 grand spent on a car only worth that and some just keep putting money into them to keep fixing problems until theyve spent so much they have to keep them as theyd sell them at a loss?

would it be because they dont want to acept that its time to move on and get something newer or because they like the shape of the older ones better and dont want to deal with the electronics?

6. does fading paint and peeling clear coat or a dent in a panel or a panel different colour to rest of car ask to be stopped random just to check or ask them to check while at a rbt if you dont yet have the time or money to buy paint if you can do it yourself or pay if you cant

7. seen a few ed/ef/el/au at upullit and wondered why even a low km one would go there what would likely be wrong with it thats hidden, some look too good to go, there was a au that looked far too good to go engine was clean, what hidden problems would they have when they look good and dont look like they got much wrong

Number 2. All spots must show tread. Full tread on the outer and massive camber wear in the inside past the tread wear indicators (do a bit of research on a tyre website to see how and where they are used) is considered unroadworthy.

4. Have a clean car with all matching paint, panels, no outlandish body kits, no crappy tint, or too darker tint, wait hang on. Go to a new car yard & have a look. 99% of the cars you see there are won't attract attention. Stock standard, no mods, clean paint with standard rims.

5. All cars are money pits. Yes you could drop it and get a new car, which is a bigger hit financially, but I have been fixing mine for 10 years now, replacing what's needed when needed, & I doubt that I have racked up the amount of money that I could have spent on a newer car. It all depends of whether you do all the mechanical maintaince on it yourself. If you don't, then labor cost can rack up very fast, especially for bigger jobs that naturally take more time.

What happens if you have a dent in a removable panel and you have to get something even if it's different colour that fits until you can get time to get it sorted

And also what happens if your car has clear peeling or paints faded and you can't afford to pay for a respray if you can't do it yourself or buy the paint straight away or don't want to do that job on a car only worth couple grand can you still drive it with clear peeling and not be done or picked up or defected, would've thought they'd be ok if there were no sharp bits poking out panels,

Is minor rust in a panel (sill or fenders or roof) ok or defectable

What hidden problems will a e series or au have that send them to upullit when they look far too good to go and have had suspension work done or not long had maintenance, there was a eb that had a reco engine and gearbox at elizabeth one that had a for sale on front seat and you wonder if they couldn't sell it and needed to get rid of it, it isn't bad in a way because it gives us cheap parts from later models or you need a steering rack and you could get lucky and find a car that not long had a new one put in

3. Maintain vehicle to high standard regardless of age.

4. See above

5. Whenever you feel like it, everyone & their circumstances are different.

6. Pretty much the same as answer 3

7. Probably there because owners don't like them or any number of other reasons. Won't know about hidden problems until you go looking & find them.

As for 5. It seems a lot of families start planning for a newer car when repairs start costing what cars worth for example they need suspension work or soon will need a few things and could cost $1000 and car might only be worth 2-3grand or some plan after certain mileage even though there's nothing wrong with them, would it be because it's only worth a couple grand and they want to sell it before something big goes wrong or would they be likely leasing car for so many years and it's time to have it back and start again

One example is a aunty had a magna and the transmission blew up and they got that fixed then sold it before other work was needed and you wonder wether they were going to have to start spending money

And is faded paint or peeling clear ok or not as some don't have the money to fix that or don't want to pay for repairer or parts to do it when it's not worth much and they're only using it as a run around or second car

Also what else sends the e series to upullit when they look far too good to go what other hidden problems would they have

1. If they want to defect you they will find something, even on a brand new car they will find something. Example no water in your windscreen washer bottle.

2. There is a tread indicator on the tyre, once the tread is below this indicator tyre to be replaced. Also most states the 2 front and the 2 rear need to ha e the same tread.

3. RBT are usually for alcohol checks and not roadworthy checks, I have never seen anyone get pulled out of an RBT check for a roadworthy check when they comply with the officers. It's only been the guys that mouth off get looked at. Also make sure your car has good tyres no loud noises.

4. Read above.

5. Every person is different and you need to make the choice that best suits your needs. There is no correct answer for this one.

6. Fading paint, pealing clear coat and different colour panels are not roadworthy issues. Keeping good tyres, panels in good order, working headlights, brakes lights tail lights etc.

7.all cars are different some may be good some may not be. Some may need $100 in repair some may need $5000 in repairs.

Back in 04 I got pulled over for what the officer claim was for an rbt ( though it was more for I licence check, I got my p plates before the v8 ban) and after I blew 0 and was exempt from that law, he decided to go over the car. Atleast the efi 5l in the kingswood was proper, 9 defects later. Fair enough, unboxed air filter, too loud, too low, no reverse lockout and the list went on.. the best one was shiny front tyres. they were 2 days old. To be fair I think the car was the target, and the p plate sealed the deal. Its not completely unresionable to have a car inspected in an rbt if there are numerous obvious red flags. $17 later and a "promise" to the engineer to get new rear(?) tyres the thing was back on the road

Googled 'upullit'.....it's a wrecker, makes much more sense now.

A wrecker may make more on the parts than the car is actually worth as a runner, especially if it needs something fixed to keep it on the road.

and often you see e series and aus with heaps and heaps and heaps km but still going really well with good bodys, is it just luck the original parts lasted that long or might owners have spent lots

Older cars that look standard (including original wheels) receive far less attention than an older car that's modified.

Cops assume an older (cheaper) modified car will belong to a young person, and be poorly maintained, where an older car in standard form, in good condition, appears to be well maintained (but many aren't). It's an unfair stereotype for all owners of older cars, but unfortunately they keep catching unroadworthy cars, so it's not going to change anytime soon.

Its about buying a car new or used and in good condition, and keeping it maintained. Car10002 if you cant keep your cars in good condition with regular servicing and cleaning from time to time, then its time to catch the bus.

1) For being lebanese

2) The area of the tyre which contacts the road must have tread

3) Drive a Camry. Even if you want to be pulled over a Cop will wave you past.

4) If wearing a baseball cap, ensure it is facing forward and not on backwards. Recline seat forward a few notches. Do not refer to policeman as "bro".

5) If you drive a VT Commodore, its time to buy a new car when the Fuel tank is empty as filling the fuel tank costs more than twice the cost of buying another VT with a full tank of fuel.

6) No not at all, different coloured panels definitely does not scream bogan likely to be under the influence.

7) Probably no problem. All of those mentioned cars are worth much more in parts than complete. Most likely they all have empty fuel tanks too.
