Toyota 86 gets Ferrari upgrade

Japanese coupe gets Italian power to create ultimate drift machine.

What do you get when you cross an affordable Japanese sports coupe with an Italian supercar?

The answer is the Toyota GT4586.

In July we reported on American drifter Ryan Tuerck's plans to install a Ferrari 4.5-litre V8 engine inside the engine bay of a Toyota 86. Now the finished product has been unveiled at the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Naturally the 86 and the engine have required some major modifications to be paired together.

As the Italian V8 is larger than the standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine found in the 86 there is no bonnet on the car in order to fit the engine - and show it off.

A custom-made exhaust and headers were created to channel the exhaust in front of the front wheels, which should make for plenty of noise.

The wheel arches have been dramatically widened to accommodate larger wheels and tyres, front and rear, complete with Ferrari-inspired gold five-spoke alloy wheels.

Tuerck won't use the 'GT4586' (a play on the GT86 name Toyota uses for the car in the USA and the Ferrari the engine was sourced from) in drifting competitions. But judging by the short video released to unveil the car, which featured him performing donuts around a stock Ferrari 458, a starring role in an online video is a likely outcome.

Id like to see a Range Rover TDV8 into a Ford Territory , oddly enough it would not be that hard as the engines are from the LION family and are the same motor just 2 cylinders shorter as the 2.7 V6
Id also like to see the 3.0 TDV6 Disco motor into MY Ranger PX II or better still the Rangie TDV8

@ 200KW & 640NM it would be a beast, as you say it would probably fit easily too in quite a large engine bay.

It would, probably need a dash upgrade just to fit, of all the vehicles to put a Coyote in why the Everest?

there all supercharged, the powerfull ones were also turboed. I drove a ATKINSON many years ago with a 8v92tt. It sounded good but it was check the fuel and fill up the oil.

The Everest is a nice size 4wd but IMHO the interior/dash is not that flash and very basic for the dollars being asked.

However, if it had a Coyote then I could be swayed as I’m not a fan of diesels and their current petrols are pathetic in the power department.

Are you sure you haven't confused the Everest with something else?
it probably has the most modern looking dash in class - and there is no Petrol model to start with, so yes pretty pathetic

Would you want the mustang Coyote V8 in one or the F150 variant?

I'm going to go as far as to say, a 2l ecoboost from a falcon into a vb/c/h commodore would be a well proportioned machine. A starfire it wouldn't be, would it sound like a 253 with shotgun pipes, no, would it go like a 253 with shotgun pipes, or even 308 a with a rochester, no. The answer to all the no's is better. the original steel bumper commodores aren't heavy, so why persist with putting extra weight over the front wheels.

I would like to see a Buick/ rover petrol v8 converted to run as a low compression boosted twin turbo Diesel engine , how many applications would this be better than its current petrol form, yes the factory did try it , project Iceberg was its name for those interested.

Nope, I looked at the Everest as a replacement for my 347 4Runner.

The centre section sucks and way too much BLACK inside. Well there ya go, no petrol so it's definitely out only being diesel so the 4Runner lives a little longer.

Although last month I brought a 4.0 FG ute which is awesome. It will replace my Hilux tipper. Upgraded the dash trim etc and added G6E electrics and memory to my FG seat and now currently converting it to dual ram alloy tipper tray with custom under tray boxes.

Sad but I suspect the days of V8's in other models etc is probably over.

they are not that powerful despite the great sound they make
They can be awesome motors with a bit of work.

I know of an offshore racer that can do 150mph and runs 2x twin turbo'd 8V92's that pull 1500hp at 3000rpm all day long.

Standard supercharger.

On Bookface of late, there have been people dropping Barra's into all sorts of vehicles. Nissan Patrols, Toyota Cressida's, Nissan Skylines, 1940s Trucks, E-Series Falcons, X-Series Falcons, Early Commodores, BMWs. Getting quite affordable with plug and play wiring kits, and engine mounts made to suit any vehicle. An XR6 Turbo motor into any vehicle is a win, just worried with Ford gone, there will be a limited supply of XR6 turbo motors floating around in years to come.

Toyota Prius with a Tesla S P100D battery and drivetrain.
And a Gopro mounted on the rear window to capture the looks on people's faces when you hit 100km/h in 2.5secs.

Looking for a smashed written off Tesla to pop up. Would then install its drivetrain into a yellow ex-taxi BA with hubcaps and a dashcam mounted in the rear to capture the bewildered look on HSV drivers' faces.

Barra or Turbo Barra & ZF into VF2 Calais V wagon. An Australian RWD wagon with a decent drivetrain that will last.

Haven't checked this post yet, when I lived in Melbourne in the 80s & 90's there were two girls getting around Dandenong in a Mk1 Ford Escort coupe, bright yellow and a 12A Rotary in it. This thing was ridiculously quick and had been professionally painted. Awesome car. After my MkI GT Cortina was destroyed by my brother, I built up a Gemini windowless van with a 2.2 Isuzu motor, twin 45mm Webers, custom cam, Isuzu LSD & 5 speed. Lowered with big Yokohama's. It was a ex Repco 1600cc delivery van when I bought it. Ended up white engine bay & candy apple red outside. Suede maxrob s/w & recaro buckets. Good times.
