Default Help please

Hey guys and girls,
So long story short I put the other half car into the shop to have four new tyres and the exhaust from the cat back done. The car went in on Friday morning running and is still in there not running. The auto sparky has now told me the ECU has crapped it self and if I can get the part they won't change me labour or coding fees.
So my question being does anyone have an ECU for a 2000 AU S1 ute. Part number : 12FD

Did they weld on the car or was the exhaust a bolt on system?

First things first.

Check ALL of the fuses and replace them accordingly.

Get a multimeter and put it in continuity mode aka ohms mode as indicated by an Omega symbol and pull each fuse and check each one individually.

Sorry Aussie. I'm in geraldton wa. I've been looking on eBay and unfortunately they have every model bar the ute one with the above mentioned code and the ecu for the sedan are non compatible with the ecu for the ute of the same model.

Get into the yellow pages and call around at the wreckers. Might be a waste of time but if its not on ebay there isnt much choice.

Might even try interstate wreckers and see if they can't ship it to you.

Aside from that it looks like you'll be towing it back home then.

Unless they disconnected the battery and went the right way about doing things to weld the pipe on the car it's extremely negligent. Whilst welders may be low (elv to be politically correct) voltage they run high current and electronics don't like that. I'd be saying someone working on the car stuffed up.

I rang all the local wreckers today. A whole 2 lol. The first bloke was great but it wasn't the same code otherwise it would have been $50 job done. The second bloke who obviously forgets people can hear what your saying on the phone if you don't cover it or put them on hold .. to his receptionist " who is it?" Her reply "a lady" his reply " nah not interested"....my reply to her
"You should probably cover the phone while speaking and I would have happily come and taken the part out myself even at $50 but I will now send my business else where.

I have since emailed a guy in the eastern states and am waiting on a relpy

I'm thinking the same thing and I'm thinking that also why I'm not being charged to have the new part installed, recoded and storage of the vehicle. I just think they're hoping I can get the parts cheaper and they don't want to do the leg work

I'd say its pretty obvious they didn't disconnect the battery etc and toasted the ecu and are trying you on.

But your call if you want to cop it and get an ECU yourself.

I know Tony's wreckers in Midvale has a couple of AU utes so you might be lucky, although I doubt you will get one for $50 9274 3338

Yeah I'm thinking so as well. But I have. I solid evidence of it and I'm afraid if I push the point with them I'll be told to take the car elsewhere and have to pay for labour as well

Fire up, typically if you drive in to get work done, you assume you can drive home after the work has been done. It's not rocket surgery. It's not your issue to pay for things that were mistakes performed by the place you trusted to perform a service that they are qualified for, yet didn't produce. Don't just roll over.

We had to jump start the car that morning because it had been sitting. My concern is that they will argue the car wasn't running to spec. If it's only going to cost me $75-$100 it may be better to let dead dog lie.

Try:
Falcon Specialists Pty Ltd
Auto Wreckers & Recyclers - Maddington, WA
Falcons To Fairlane Supply & Fit, New & Used Parts
13B Davison St, Maddington WA 6109
ph: (08) 9459 8155

They can also be "a bit rough around the edges" but they will likely have the part. Might be better to email them: sales@falconspecialists.com.au per http://www.falconfocusspecialists.com.au/contact

Cheers I have already chatted with the blokes in Maddo and unfortunately they don't have this particular one. It seems pretty bloody rare lol. It's just frustrating as it's my gf's car. She's been waiting to have her car back and now this has happened. The look of disappointment in her face , to be honest was heart breaking. I should have just taken the car to my Machanic and had the work done but as the repairs are on a loan she had to use these guys.
We will keep going and find a part soon.
Thanks for all ur help.

Are you an RAC member? If so, it might be worth getting them to have a look and do an independent report on the cause. The RAC also has a spares network and may be able to source one for you.

There's always this option: https://bulletperformanceracing.com....au-falcon.html and Injectronics list an exchange one as being available here http://www.injectronics.com.au/catal...trol-module/49 (Click on the OEM Part Number Tab).

•1R2312A650FD
•1R23-12A650-FD
•1R2312A650FC
•1R23-12A650-FC
•1R2312A650FB

•1R2312A650FA
•1R23-12A650-FA

I also bought an exchange synchroniser module for my son's old EF Futura from Injectronics some years ago and the part worked and delivery was only a couple of days.

I see http://www.injectronics.com.au/nearest-reseller/ Injectronics list Repco in Gero as one of their resellers but I suspect it would still be quicker to order directly from Injectronics online.

I would have a little chat with consumer affairs or whatever WA calls it, also is there a organisation that covers mechanics similar to motor vehicle dealers asociation I think they are trying to shift the blame and perhaps a liitle reminder from authorities may remind them of their responsibilites

UPDATE: I managed to get an ECU. After ringing everyone in Perth and the eastern states with no luck my BIL pipes up" oh I'm wrecking one of those in my yard" so new ECU in the ute... she lives.

The shop tried to make as many excuse as possible but I ended up walking away paying $130 to get my car out of the shop running

Not ideal, but much better than having a dispute which will have your car sitting there for weeks.
