"WOULD-BE carjackers have used red and blue lights to impersonate police in an attempted carjacking in Melbourne’s north.
A police spokeswoman said a woman noticed a car with flashing lights as she was driving along the Hume Highway near Rushwood Drive, about 8.20pm on Wednesday. The woman stopped, thinking the silver VE Holden was police, and four men got out of the car. The men tried to break into her car while demanding she hand it over. The woman was escaped unharmed and drove off and the group of men, believed to be of African appearance, followed her south along the Hume Freeway. She last saw them at Cooper St. The spokeswoman said anyone who suspected a police vehicle was fake should immediately call 000 or drive to the nearest police station. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au" HeraldSun. I would say these days I would NEVER pull over for an unmarked possibly detective or HWP police car at night time, doesnt matter where I am. Especially out in the bush. Just keep going to the nearest town to a Police station. You couldnt get in trouble for being in a "police chase" surely. |

Actually, one night, my Mum was doing 80 in a 100 zone at about ,midnight, country road. A car started following her closely, she took off at 130ish, and they kept following. She saw they were police where there was some street lighting getting into a town, then they left her alone! Scared her half to death! Who's fauly is it that she was scared and tried to get away if they did want to give her a ticket!?

I'd pull over for a suspected police vehicle, but as soon as I see 4 black dudes jump out of the 'police vehicle' I'd plant it.

Looks like the apex gang is getting a bit creative. I would be a bit suspicious considering the car was a VE. All the unmarked cars here in Geelong are either VF's or FGX. I also wouldn't pull over until i hear the siren.

How many people could tell the difference between a VE and VF, let alone at night????

Well call the police and/or drive to the nearest police station. At the very least keep the engine going and doors locked until you know what is going on.
I haven't seen a VE police car marked or unmarked for a long long time so I wouldn't be stopping but it obviously depends on where you live and how familiar you are with cars. |

Everyone is banging on about VE cops cars not being current. My wife wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Falcon or a Commodore let alone something that was last model. Not everyone is a car person.

Really. funny you say that because it has only been in the last few years that SOME people have begun to appreciate XL-XP, the majority especially in the 80's and 90's would have bought anything but mainly for the exact reason your using now.

Don't agree; like the VT, the VE may have looked good/fresh back when it was released (in 2006); but looks really old hat now.
Time makes its mark, and just like the VT vs the AU; the VE looks comparitively old compared to the FG. I wouldn't want to be pulled over by a VE, it would surely be embarrassing for any 'real' police. Last edited by Ford17; 18-08-2017 at 09:25 PM. |

It sometimes even gets difficult to tell if it's a Holden or Ford without looking at the badge, they all look the same to me. even some Toyotas and Mitsubishis's are starting to look like Holdens and Fords. The average person would have no idea, what make of car it was pulling them over, let alone if it was the latest model of a certain make. Can't see how it would be embarrassing to any police, considering half of them are driving around in Hyundai's and Mitsubishi's these days.

Same here, I also think that most people only look at the lights when being pulled over and not the car

Especially at night, all you see is the lights.
