Post Another Chrysler Jeep Recall

FCA Australia Pty Ltd — 2011-2014 (LX) Chrysler 300 and 2012-2014 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee
PRA No.
2017/16284
Date published
12 Sep 2017
Campaign number
T36
Product description
2011-2014 (LX) Chrysler 300 and 2012-2014 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) and 180 AMP Alternator and 220 AMP Alternator.
Identifying features
VIN (Vehicle identification number)
See attached VIN list
Recall T36 Australia VIN list.xlsx (130.81 KB)
What are the defects?
The alternator of the affected models may experience diode thermal fatigue due to cyclical loads induced by the electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS).
What are the hazards?
If the diodes fail, the alternator will no longer supply electrical energy to the vehicle. This may lead to the vehicle stalling without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Failed diodes may also develop a resistive short circuit that can result in heat, smoke and/or fire originating within the alternator.
What should consumers do?
FCA Australia will notify owners of affected vehicles who can then schedule a service booking with their nearest Chrysler Jeep Dodge service centre who will carry out the repairs.
Supplier
FCA Australia Pty Ltd
Where the product was sold
Nationally
Responsible regulator
Department of Infrastructure & Regional Development is the responsible regulator for this recall.

'May lead to vehicle stalling without warning increasing the risk of a crash'.

They better fix these cars ASAP!

I think you will find it is for the 3.6ltr petrol motored Jeep and 300C. Only a small number of these sold, but still needs to be fixed.

Electric power steering causing too much load on the Alternator causing them to fail?
I remember old cars have a charge light warning, shouldn't a modern car like the Jeep warn the driver there is no charge?

There should be plenty of time before the battery drains to avoid the vehicle suddenly stalling I would have thought.

Ahh, the basket case that is FCA.

Hardly surprising.

Last 12 months, FCA has had 7 recalls. Ford has had 7 recalls.

For reference to ALL recalls recently.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good outrage.

Maybe the Aussie ones are going back to have this put on them

Jeep is a major Tigers sponsor but our wheels didn't fall off this year like they used to.
Looks like our recall after a terrible 2016 to adjust and tweak a few faults worked.
Could do for jeep too , or will it ?

I bought a brand new Jeep KL Cherokee last year.I asked them to check for any recalls before i took delivery of it....no recalls found but I received a recall letter in the mail for it less than a week later....recall attended to by dealer and had no further issues or recalls with it.

I haven't had any Chrysler Jeep recalls having cumulatively owning them for 5 years (3 separate cars). I admit the 300c had a few different issues once it was over 7 years old though.

I got a Ford recall after about 2 years so we will see how I go with the currant Grand Cherokee in the future.
