Anyone who has been to Calder Park would be familiar with the horrible stretch of road between Taylors Lakes (at approx Sunshine Avenue) until Calder Park Drive.
Basically for those who don't know it's a freeway with a few non-overpass intersections, notorious for frequent accidents. In their wisdom, the Victorian Government have lowered the speed limit from 100kph to 80kph from Sunshine Avenue to past Calder Park and blocked off right turns for all of the intersections. Maybe it's just me, but I would have thought the Speed Camera revenue we keep hearing about would have been better spent building a few overpasses to make the road safer. Or maybe some quick revenue can be made until drivers adapt to the 80kph speed limit... |

Bite your tongue. They probably will.
It is a terrible stretch of road though, rather a bit of an embarrassment in our 'great city'.

The calder is "my street",and while it may need a few upgrades around sunshine ave,I think you may need to cast your eye a bit father north.Work has finaly started on the final part that is still single hwy, from ravenswood to kyneton (about 50k's),and while there are a few stacks near calder park, there are frequent fatalites on this section.
While this is going on I think there will be 2 chances of them spending any money down that way. It's taken years for them to even start up here.

Well, it costs about $200 per sign all up, so a dam site cheaper than putting in the required overpasses (2 - 1 at the extension of Kings Road and 1 at Calder Park drive), and gee, at $165/fine it won't take long to recoup the costs of those signs now, will it.
Another initiative of the Victorian Government. Thanks Mr B. |
