Toyota Landcruiser 300 Series to be revealed in August

I dunno if I am the target market for this anymore, but I still hold these in pretty high regard. Lots of trouble free kms all over remote Australia in the mighty Cruiser for us, and no doubt other Aussie families.

Hopefully it continues the 25 year service life, thicker glass, full stainless exhaust, made in Japan themes of past models.

People will spew at the lack of V8, but I'm more of a fan of the inline 6 TDs. Now, is the V6 mentioned in the article a petrol hybrid, or will there also be diesel/diesel hybrid versions?

Dropping 100Nm in torque is not going to do it any favours.

Could mean a further increase in Ram orders and sales.

Shame Ford doesn't wake up with the inventory it could have.

I love my Falcon. And would happily hook up a small / medium caravan and tow it. But I Love big Cruisers. Few years I'll get the 105 series as a tourer. I had. Diesel 60 series. Tin worm got it in the end.

The HDT-FTE engines were the best Toyota made - with the basic 12HT- a close second. Such a smooth engine. When you start to look at how well these things are made, you realise why they cost $88k in GLX form. Keep them well maintained and they'll go a million.

The only exception are the 78 / 79 models. $77k for what is pretty much the same interior as my old 60 series, and they wheel track is wider at the front.

The numbers don't seem right. 220kw / 356nm is what a modern 3.6L V6 puts out now. I think they have not factored the electric motors into the total output.

It's about on par with our favorite boat anchor SIDI V6 from our former redheaded step child based in Adelaide.

Those figures are dastardly lame for the price of a new Cruiser.

It's not so much a Ford problem as it is a corporate structure problem.

The problem with large corporates is that they've got the market maneuverability of the god damn Eureka tower because of all the **** involved in making decisions, by the time they're reacting after getting a message from their target market to the top of the structure and then to convince the ones with the corporate purse strings, it takes months or years.

Doesn't matter how big they and how much money they have, they can fall from grace really quickly.

Dropping 100Nm? The TTV8 diesel makes 195kw and 650Nm of torque, it's more than a 100Nm drop.

The adage of 'Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races' is very true in this instance.

If it’s a twin turbo V6 hybrid, I would expect it to have more than 750Nm. The Lincoln Aviator’s 3.0 V6 TT hybrid puts out 368kw / 854 Nm. I know Toyota usually has more conservative numbers than other manufacturers, but I wouldn’t panic over the speculation of an “auto journalist.”

I suspect it will have a V6 hybrid, a BMW diesel of some sort, and a twin turbo hybrid.
We probably won't get the latter in the cruiser as they'll save that for the Lexus version.

It's being compared to the 4.5 V8 PETROL which is being dropped. But along with that reports also indicate the current TTV8 diesel you mention is also rumoured to being dropped so Nm will be an important point.

The 300 (presuming it will be called the 300), so many rumours but not a single spy shot has ever been shown, all you get are rendered or face lifted 200's.

Must be a slow day in the motoring press office because these stories get refreshed often and often with wildly inaccurate data.

As for engines, here is a list of engines rumoured for the "300" since 2014!

I'm pretty much the same. Had diesel 60 as well, loved it. Did you know Isuzu designed/made the 4.0L diesel for the 60? Would have loved to have a 12HT... Also had 3F in an auto 73 cruiser, really enjoyed that combination as well.

Family had 80's and 100s, used 105s when I worked on mines (was surprised their diesels revved higher at 110km/h than the old 60...). 200s I've been in a bit and really impressed at how smooth everything was.

Latest 200 series had the URJ 4.6L all alloy V8 for its petrol, this one had a timing chain iirc. Before that it was the UZJ 4.7 which has a great reputation (and timing belt).

One article is suggesting the new Cruiser will be lighter (pinch of salt, etc) - if it does lose weight it will mark a return to the weights of Cruisers of old, which is a good thing. The 200 got pretty huge.

I'm kind of hoping there's a petrol hybrid with maybe their 3.5 Lexus TTV6. I'd probably try that one before I try a modern diesel.

If you look at the Ford side, their new Expedition reviews show not only a really nice big wagon, but they've swapped for a petrol TT V6 and a lot of the power/torque comments come back positive. More complex mechanically though.

The petrol V8 has already been dropped. Back in August. It only made up like 5% of total sales.

To be fair the 4.6L wasn't a bad unit, it had higher differential ratios which somewhat made up for the lack of TQ against the 4.5TTD. The 4.6 was introduced because the old 4.5 petrol and for that mater the 5.7 were no longer emissions compliant.

Having said that, diesels as generally more fuel efficient, better suited for long distances, towing, outback touring and not to mention petrol is banned in some remote communities.

My 200 series on a single tank of diesel can get near to 1400km on the highway, conversely it can cross The Simpson Desert on a full tank of diesel. Will be interesting to see how the new hybrid stacks up against these figures (presuming it is hybrid). IMO without a diesel engine any new Land Cruiser will be a dud here in OZ.
