Default Fuel Gauge Problems

Hi All,
I know that this has been covered a bit, however no one seems to have metioned this.

My fuel gauge sometimes does the thing of jumping to full then to empty, or it just stays empty. If you drive long enough it will slowly work itself up to the correct level of whats in the tank. I have entered the diag mode on the cluster and I get strange results. When I did this I had a bit under half a tank of fuel, the 1 mode gave me 73L to start off with, with 176 as resistance, then when driving it was going crazy jumping all over the place, the resistance stayed mostly at 176 but changed occasionally.
The mode 7 started at 73L then after a bit of driving as the fuel gauge slowly started to come up from empty it slowly decreased in value.

So, does this all mean a sender fault or a gauge problem?

thanks
Sebastien

I replaced my senders and my floats ... and I still have the same issue.
Now it's tim to check the wiring harness for bad earthing ... then maybe time to test the gauge in the cluster.

Both my gauges on the LPG tanks are reporting the correct level ALL OF THE TIME.
It's really annoying me .... I just make sure i don't go over 500km per fill and I am right.

It's hard trying to troubleshoot this problem.

Seeing as the gauges (on the LPG tanks) are reading correctly ... the floats are fine.

Most of the time mine sits on empty with the fuel light on ... then it creeps up to full ... then when i start the car it sits at the correct level ... thne it starts dropping after about 10km of driving.

Meh ... I'll sort it out one day.

For me though ... I am looking toward more of a Instrumentation cluster issue.

I don't think that helps myself and mechanik1 as were running on gas!

Sebastien though, may just be running on petrol. It could be of great use to him!

I appreciate the post though, and have added it to my ever growing AU Info files!

Cheers,

GK
