Hi Ford owners and enthusiast,

As a new member to this forum and as a Melbourne based distributor of ignition coils, I want to make a quick introduction to ask that if you have any ignition coil related questions, please feel free to message direct or post a thread.

I will try my best to answer any related questions.

Welcome mate its a great forum and u should do some good business if u have products that perform and last.

I have a question about Barra I6 ignition coils.

How many k's will they last running petrol?

And can u supply LPG specific coils for all the Egas models as they seem to fail quite often and they also require more output than petrol coils?

Thanks for the welcome and question.

I can't speak of other aftermarket coils, but the Swan brand we distribute (which are made by an OEM Manufacturer) are made to last a minimum of 80k, but other factors play a part on durability including driving habits and car condition and maintenance.

Regarding LPG specific coils, no the coils we stock fit both petrol and LPG, to my knowledge specific coils don't exist and if you found some being sold as such, I would think that it's the same coil just falsely marketed

I spend a bit of time in the LPG section as I used to be a big LPG fan before the rebate was taken away and before the new taxes for LPG came in.

Although ULP has gone back up to $1.39 in Melbourne and LPG is around 65c so if you do alot of k's LPG is still cheap as long as the system is reliable.

How much do u charge for a set of Barra coils?

Yeah I have first hand experience with the LPG drop off, we used to do in-house LPG conversions during the peak period with the Gov rebate. Now we just sell LPG components as an upkeep to the existing LPG conversions.

I have heard that the Government will be stopping ULP 91 octane, so pretty much forcing drivers to ULP Premium and with all the talk about Diesel and their emissions, you think LPG should be reintroduced as the Hybrid and Battery Direct options are still some time away from populating the the Aus market.

Well i remember about 10 years ago during the GFC when petrol in Melbourne went to $1.60 .......it was shocking.

LPG conversions went through the roof and the tank makers could'nt supply conversion shops quick enough to keep up with demand.

Why the hell they took away the rebate i do not know as the emissions from LPG are alot cleaner than petrol/diesel.

Shell are apparently dumping LPG all together very soon because they don't want to maintain and test there supply tanks.

The whole industry has dropped like a rock.

Cant believe ther forcing us to buy 98......Thats not fair......Alot of engines dont need to run 98 so its a waste of money.

Hi there I checked your price for coil packs for my Territory $20 each I have been buying after market ones from the bay site and they only last six months and maybe 2000 Ks but they are $60 for six and also Im running on gas have you any idea what I can use Im over it I dont mind changing them just that last bugger thanks John

Ebay can be hit and miss, there is a lot of cheap coils flooding the market, yes they all come as aftermarket from China, but in different degrees of quality.

Regarding price we have a 20% off June promo running.

Our coils are manufactured by a company that makes OE coils for certain car makes, so we have total confidence in our entire product range.

Like pretty much anything you by today we have 12 month warranty period. Barring external influences, we expect our coils to last a minimum 80,000k/s.

You're more than welcome to call us (number on our site) to discuss any concerns and what coils are most appropriate for you.

Hi Swan Ignition Coils, I have decided to purchase a set of these to use on my Dad's BF Falcon. Order placed today and looking forward to receiving them. I like the fact that there is a 12 month warranty. Before this I would not have considered anything other than the original replacement parts.

I just replaced plugs with the long life ones from jefferson ford just under 40$ free post i had some after market coils just under 40 but one shorted through the secondary winding after about 8 weeks put the old ford coils back in as someone on this forum suggested a while ago runs like new> coils have done 200K glad i did what he said willjon ps running mostly on gas

I'm sure there is cheap and nasty aftermarket coils out there, but we need to be mindful that not all aftermarkets are made to the same quality and standard.

Curious as to why you replaced the coils if the old ford coils where running like new, did you replace them as you were in the process of replacing pugs?

This is what I don't get.
How come old school coils that charge & discharge 8, 6 or 4 times per revolution, sometimes with multiple spark, sometimes cap soaked seem to out last a modern technology coil that sits on a plug & has to fire once per revolution?

Never understood this...….and possibly never will.

The 2 main issues are that the HT voltage is now much higher, in many cases as high as 50 kV.

The other drama with modern cars is the location of the coil itself.

The coils are buried inside an alloy head at over 100 deg C, with no ventilation at all.

I am thinking of picking some up for my 2014 XR6 EcoLpi, as I will be fitting new plugs. Amazon are selling a set of six for $94 delivered, and seems to be good value.

I have Swan ignition coils in three vehicles, XR6, XR8 and XR6 turbo. Have done between 5000 and 30,000 kilometres and have had no issues at all.

i bought a set for my BA XR6 Ute .

no probs so far , still carry old coils , 3 visteon /1 new Bosch / 2 unbranded , were okay ,
only had the ute for 12 months , so a refresh was good insurance imo + plugs

just in case , as i live in tha mulga ..

I received my new Swan coils, and they look to be excellent quality.
Performs just as good as OEM and hoping they last.
I read somewhere that these where made by AcDelco.

Thank you for the positive endorsement of our ignition coils.

We have not doubt they will be reliable and long lasting.

As for the maker of our brand, I can't say which factory they come out of, but they are made by a manufacturer that makes OEM coils globally.

Trying out some of the apparent sister brand to Swan, Coil My Ride.

Main reason - couldn’t get Bosch (the OEM) at a sane price locally. Non-Ford application but a badly heat stressed, waste spark setup.

Will post back if there is a problem, else one can assume they’re OK.

Perhaps a relevant side-note.

No coil problems. (In fact my ute probably needs new coils for its 20th birthday - if so, I will buy Swan.) But noting the latest pair of Swan coils came in a shipping box branded with Cadic parcel tape. As in, the aftermarket coil brand.

Currently negotiating a warranty issue on a single coil, so far they (Swan/CoilMyRide) have been reasonable to deal with.

The other coils show a textbook burn on the plugs, I could not be happier with them.
