I've seen a couple of AU's with GT stripes and apart from agreeing with what some others have said about them belonging on GT's and only GT's, what I didn't like about them on an AU was the fact that the space between the bottom of your doors and the molded trim in the middle of your door, which you are asking if it should be taken off as they are black on a white car, this space isn't the same at the front of the front door v's the back of the back door. Therefore when you put stripes on an AU, this difference in gaps from front of car to back of car, i believe, stands out even more. First AU with stripes that I saw I thought, Oh, thats different, they have put GT stripes on an AU and then I saw the difference between front and back of car and it really looked like the stripes had not been put on straight. Straight they were, its just the molded trim in the middle of the door raises as it continues along the middle of the AU's.
Hey its your car. Do what you want to do. Something like this can always be taken off.

Go and speak to a sign writer/maker. Give them some dimensions of what you want and it should be about half of that much.

Oh and read my previous post and give it some thought. The gap really does stand out.

It makes your car look a bit longer.
It looks good on some cars but not others, all depends on the colour scheme i think.

your cars over 4m long- there's 4 stripes approximately 70mm wide each, thats over 16m at 3" wide- it's a lot of vinyl

you need to be realistic mate- $180 is cheap and it's crap stuff too- the stuff FPV put on isn't that great and its still close to $600....

if you just want cheap crap on your car, go for it- but if you're serious about it being a mod to enhance your car, I would want that crap on it- spend a bit more for the good stuff- you'll be pleased you did........

Well I was originally going to say that those stripes do not belong on an AU, but after seeing the picture of f6 typhoon's car, it actually looks not too bad. I would never do it to my AU though.

OZFORDAU - Unless you're planning on adding to it (ie; kit/wing/rims) my personal opinion is don't do it, especially since your car is plain. But, it is at the end of the day, your car. If you like it then do it. You shouldn't have to drive a car that's based on other people's preferences. It's your car & your choice.

Be sure to post up pics when it's done....

Yep. I gotta admit, that looks pretty damn good. I still don't agree with the conecpt (GT stripes on a non-GT), but you have executed it well.

I'm thinking of getting some stripes, probably in Galaxy Blue - always liked that colour, over the bonnet/roof/boot of the XR8. I think they'd just set the car off nicely. LOL.

Thanks to everyone who sported me on this issue...And to those who didn't it's cool...again everyone to there own opinion...It's a forum and thats what we talk about mods etc, and whether we like this or that! People can give there own opinions as long as it's not over the top or they say something that will get there head riped off!

Hey why not go the whole hog and put the BA GT Kit on as well, or why not just buy a BA. I have seen the stripes on AU's and some look well alright, but personally im not a fan. On a BA, kitted up looks good. But i think deffinately colour code those black side stripes, they will give a much cleaner look to the car.

Yeah for $180 give it a go... its a MUST however that you colour code the door protector... and look at lowering it too... mine was a mere $260 all up (installed in my mates workshop, so minus labour)

Its all about customising your car... this is exactly what the stripes will do to yours.

i actually dont mind that orange AU, stipes on au's just dont look right, would have ben cool if someone thought of it about.. hmmm... 4 or 5 years ago when the AU's were the current model and there were no GT's with stripes going around.. THAT would stand out, but for an AU to have stripes now is almost a joke.

at the end of the day, and everyone else has said it before, IT IS YOUR CAR.

if I had to put the stripes on for what ever reason, i would go BLACK on white.. blue on white is too much of a look at me thing.

anyway.. i should be working...

cheers

Its your car mate. Who cares what the purists say lol..
I'd paint the side moulds white before you put the stripes on, it'll look too busy if you don't. My friend has a silver AU 1 forte and its got black gt stripes, it doesn't look that good because the door moulding is black.

Good luck and post pics
