Depends on the car. I purchased my last car based on:
It's lap times and class competitiveness It's ease of driving It's affordability to run It's condition It's collectivity ie expected to appreciate in value |

Depends on what im buying a car for at the time, if its a project its potential its the main selling point, if its for my everyday car i look for, age, colour, make, how many k's its done, its size, if its been serviced regaully, has it been in a smash, all the common things you wana find out before puchasing a new car.

My reasons: I need to like the car, that it has good tread, a clean interior and boot.
I have always been a Ford fan since about the intro of the XR. That means that it HAS to be a Ford and of course, I work for a Ford dealer |

Being 26, living in Sydney and having dreams of owning a home.. my first thoughts are PRICE!!
2. I'm not into sedans because I like the look and versatility of a hatch. 3. Mid-sized. I'd love to have an XR8 or GT but its just too big for me. 4. Handling, ride quality, performance, fuel consumption. 5. Look, shape, colour (not red, silver, black or anything dark that could blend into the road) Thats how I pick my car(s). I have a 2006 Focus LX, Satin White (I wanted Dawn Blue but this was 500 bucks cheaper and it looks nice anyway).

Thats exactly how l shop. Find a car that suits my needs and taste and that not many people like so you dont get the xr6/ ss commo saturation. ( no offence intended) Just makes me feel a little original when modding it. |

No 1 priority should be it's capability of doing a job.
i.e. next car will probably have to be able to tow a trailer, relatively cheap to buy and run, fit in a low garage and not beat me up for long distances. My Honda and Datsun are "fun" cars. The Honda has to do double duty as a daily driver/occasional track car so it had to be reliable and not throw the towel in when cornering or braking. The Datsun's main purpose will be as a fun track car. It won't be the quickest thing on 4 wheels but I will enjoy fanging it around.

1. Rear-drive. (I hate FWD cars, drive like crap and a bastard to fix.)
2. Cheap to buy. 3. Reliable and cheap to repair. 4. Reasonable on fuel. 5. Decent amount of power. I ended up with a 6cylinder VS Commodore. No problems to speak of. Nudging 10L/100 in mostly stop/start driving. I would have preferred something smaller - but try finding a small rear drive car these days - and not paying through the nose for a sports car. |

There are many questions but not many answers to be found. However my oldman once told me all cars loose money, just look for one that looses it slowly. What do you think it will be worth in 5 years? Will people still want it then?I suppose thats why he always spent the extra for a GS model,in 5 years it was still popular,in 10 it was loved, now after 36 years its a treasure!

Friend of mine told me he only buys cars with something happening on the bonnet. e.g. WRX, XR8, Monaro. I like that and use it as a rule. I like to look out the front and be reminded that something serious lurks under the hood...

And whoever thought a five and a half thousand dollar Phase 3 in 1971/72 could fetch up to $300,000 today. One is being asked for that now, as we speak!
