Fuel heist: 500 litres stolen

Police have followed a trail of diesel to arrest two men for allegedly stealing 500 litres of fuel from a service station in Sydney's west this morning.

Officers went to the Kemps Creek General Store on Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek, about 2.50am when an alarm went off, police said.

They spoke to the owner who showed them a diesel storage tank which had allegedly been broken into and drained of about 500 litres of diesel, police said.

Police followed the trail of diesel for about six kilometres to a truck on a rural property on Fifteenth Avenue at Rossmore, they said.

A large amount of the fuel had been dumped on the ground, police said.

Police arrested the owner of the truck in some bushes on the property and another man at a nearby house, they said.

A 51-year-old Drummoyne man and a 55-year-old Rossmore man were charged with larceny, police said.

The theft follows two bulk fuel robberies in recent months.

Thieves pumped 15,000 litres of unleaded petrol from a Prime service station in Croydon in June, while $25,000 worth of diesel and premium unleaded fuel was stolen from Padstow in May.

Both thefts were in the early morning, with padlocks cut to gain access to the fuel and a petrol tanker used to suck underground tanks dry.

Too funny

Although he may have hit an alarm it should not have been his panic alarm as these are NOT audible. And shouldnt ever be. Irrespective it serves them right for getting caught. Theives are rarely smart. out:

Sorry to disappoint you, but ive been working in the Security Industry nearly 10years, from starting at the bottom as a foot patroller to installing alarm systems and now in Security Management.

This is where you are wrong.

Panic alarms are Audible
Duress and Hold Up alarms are "silent"

And when police are sent, they are advised as such.

I too have been in the industry for near around 13yrs, installing, designing, specifying & selling security systems. Rarely, very, very rarely are panic/duress audible. The only time they should be audible is if the system only operates locally. Domestic panels (ness/dl/nx/c&k/ademco/dsc/solution etc) generally come with a default program for audible panic/duress due to the high volume that are installed as local systems. Send them to base and disable the noisemakers. Industry standard.

I have worked in the service station industry for sevral years at sevral different servos.......

The panic button and duress buttons are one and the same button, there is no other button, obviously the remote button and the "under the counter button" both do the same thing, set off a silent alarm. Only a complete fool would install an audible alaram (other than fire alarm) at a servo.

The servo owner could have one of many alarm systems, so my info has a higher probability of being wrong. Not to mention you have to consider how the tech programmed the alarm when it was installed. So yeah, could have been silent, maynot have been.

We use mainly Solutions(commercial & residential), Challengers and Concepts.
We dont use any others really, unless we do a take over and use existing equipment.

I just realised your are in ACT, here in NSW we've had a big shake up in the industry and are about to again in September when they introduce more units into our license testing and RPL's. I could ramble on for ages about some of the things in the new legislation.
They are looking to/or starting to leave in droves already.
Its going to be interesting to see the NSW industry reduced once more. :
