Question Quick question about the XR AUII guages/dials ?

Ok , i got myself some new white led's to replace my blue ones , and some red and blue cellophane to tint the needed areas only - main reason for this , to solve the dark red needle syndrome with blue led's . I don't wan't to have to add other colour led's to make the needles light up , as i want my dash completelly blue / 1 colour ... not fading from dark blue to light blue in the centre to dark on the edge again..Anyway i'll give it a go and see how it turns out.

I'm Just curious about the needles , they have the black cap on them in the centre ( red needles with black cap in the middle / xr auII model ), do these caps come off before prying the needles off , or are the small black caps part of the needles and don't come off seperatelly ? any info would be appreciated , cheers .

G'day mate, good to see your trying new things again lol, I'll wait til you get yours done before I rip into mine again lol. Yip, all the black caps come off seperately mate, they have a tab on either side of the cap that grabs onto the needle from underneath, I found this out while trying to remove my needles( which i'm still trying to figure out lol) you can get at them with a bit of force when your using the fork. Once they're off, you'll find that the center of the needles look counter sunk with a shaft revealing the pin at the bottom, this is where I got stuck, no amount of force was gonna remove the needles and I was too scared to pry anymore lol if you come up with an alternative, post it up. Also, take care when replacing the caps as I pushed a little too hard and when I replaced the cluster the RPM gauge started to move like the seconds hand on a clock so had to pull over and revved the crap out of it for a little while until it settled down lol Never really got around to hitting it with heat as you suggested as I don't have a hair dryer pmsl good luck mate.

Hi mate , I haven't seen or heard from you on here in ages , wb .
I just replaced a few leds with the white 1's ( 3 so far ) and had to test it to check the needle brightness , very bright indeed now , so my cluster is half white and half blue at the moment ..lol , it actually looks quite nice in white too ( a much better white than standard globes and much brighter ) ..

Anyway , back to it , still got a few more to go then trying to remove the needles ...hmmmmm , i'll see how i go and let you know , cheers mate .

Sweet as mate. Been lurking here and there, been busy with work and all lol looking at doing the whole LED change over thing as I'm getting brassed off with no needles at night, also getting one LED that's flickering now and then. If I can get that darn face off I'd be home and hosed but I'll sit back and wait to see what you do bwahahahaha. Good luck man.

: !!! ..

I cant believe it ! , I don't think im going to even bother with the blue cellophane , the dash/cluster is allready blue using white leds !, and the needles light up excellent.

The Blu light emmited is a lot lighter blue than the blue led's , but it actually looks quite nice in a lighter blue , it seprates it a bit from my dark blue elec window buttons and t/bar & cfp lights .

Awesome , Im gonna leave it as is i think now , i think due to the XR cluster face being a dark blue in colour , when using white led's behind it it makes the lighting look light blue anyway.

I'll post some pics tomorrow when i get my camera back.

Oh , by the way , i replaced my 7x.. 5mm blue led dash/cluster globes/bulbs/leds with 5mm white 1500mcd led's.

cheers. , very happy .

lol , wait until i post some pic to make sure you like the lighter colour blue it emmits , looks really nice agains all the red dials again etc etc ..

Darn i can't believe i've been scratching my head for ages on how to brighten these needles while maintaining blue dash/cluster lights , when all i had to do was install white leds ! ... hahahaha

trial and error i suppose ..

Although if you wanted it darker again in certian places where it is lighter blue now , you could allways mess around with the cellophane behind the cluster face too .

Im definatelly happy with it as is , ill be leaving mine as is from now.

Pics tomorrow , cheers .
