I thought you'd get a chuckle out of that. It's supposed to be Telstra's ADSL2. (wireless network through the house, if that makes any difference)

I take these reading with a (large) grain of salt. Even though I'm less than a 1K from the exchange the reading seems to vary depending on the browser.

That one was using Opera. The 'speedo needle' on Speedtest.net usually sits between the 5 and 10, then has a mad burst off the dial.

This one was using Google's Chrome. With Chrome it sits around the 5-10, as with Opera, But doesn't get quite as excited towards the end of the test.

wireless can be very stroppy for doing these tests, but usually drops at the end rather than peaks.. with your distance from exchange, your last test is entirely possible if it's ADSL 2+ (not just adsl 2).. and Telstra has good speed

It's ADSL 2 I think..... I dont know if 2+ is available here in the bush. Is there a way to find out exactly what I do have ?

(without having to talk to the Telstra people in Southwest Afzakastan)

But hey, those numbers are great for impressing friends

log into your modem, and check what speed it's connected at.. it should be listed in 'kbps'

should be in 'router status' or 'modem status' or 'connection status' depending what modem you have. might be listed as 'sync' speed

I upgraded to Telstra's 25GB 8MBIT ADSL1 (same plan is 25Mbit if you can get ADSL2+). They have a deal until the end of the month and if you resign for 2 years, and have your phone with them, you get that plan for $49.95. So for $10 a month cheaper I got 5.3 times faster and more then twice the quota. I'm happy

you may need to login to the modem and manually change the modulation to 8Mbps, sometimes modems don't pick up the change.

O.k i used the speedtest site and adjusted the tried each modem port speed from the max 115,000 back down to the 9600kps.... The 38,000 seem gave the best result at just around 2.00 so it's better.... But could still be ALOT better???? Hmmm????

Now Ive got adsl 2, in a bundle it costs the same per month but now I have 25 GB instead of 12 and is a bit faster. Plus with the T-box a few extra tv channels and no usage charged with them. Not to mention movie downloads, but this is starting to sound like an ad.

iiNet bought Westnet, so perhaps you go assigned an IP address that was once assigned to Westnet but is now in the iiNet pool.
