Just heard a rumour from 'a source close to Holden' that the Crewman is defunct.
Production is in its final weeks and there are no plans to resurect the vehicle in the future. What will Vic Police use in the future???? They loved Crewmans - part sedan/part divvy van. |

Obviously, with the Utes switching to the VE shortly, they haven't commissioned a Crewman style?

I know that VIC,NSW & QLD use the crewmans now so that alone should make holden want to keep that going as it is the ulitmate cop car. But hey i guess holden and ford a similar in this way and like making strange decisions

If the crewman is getting dropped it would be because they arnt selling enough units and the product isn't making Holden a profit. Like Ford the LWB and a maybe on the wagon if they arn't gonna make money on the vehicle there isn't a point on keeping it.

I'm not surprised they're stopping production of the Crewman... They must have cost Holden a fortune in warranty claims... Our local Holden dealer keeps a couple of full diff assemblies, brakes and all on hand to bolt in when the next customer brought his Crewman in on the back of a tilt tray 'cause the diff had failed... They are terrible for diff failures...

Could be Ford's oppertunity to build a dual cab ute based on a Territory. Now that would be a good thing!

Thats a shame. I for one were happy that Holden shoved it up Fords nose that they could atleast build it. Ok so it might be dropped, the exact reason no one here knows yet, but they atleast can say they tried.
As much as I hate them, I saw heaps around, and tradies using them. Perhaps they are not getting repeat buyers.

A purple Crewman SS is an ugly bit of gear, especailly if its got 20 inch wheels and 35 series Falken tyres. Oh, and one of those big polished roll bars so you can't fit anything in the back. |

I believe there are cages in the back of the wagons for the police dogs... and there aren't any cages in crewmans now are there?
And I thought the diffs were similiar used in other models, not just limited to crewmans, so you can't blame one make of car for stuffing that up!

lol @ crewmans. i thought they are dropping them because of no sales.
The back seat is way to upright for an adult and its just really squashy. plus the ute is also to small :( . i guess they would be ok if you had little kids. my housemate had an SSZ crewman and it did a diff at 6000km! sold it at 7500km. |

The Crewman and the One tonner were the only Commodore varients that had live axles... developed by Wallinshaw in the UK. They are a terrible bit of engineering... screwing the diff inside the u-bolts and causing the handbrakes to lock on (the way they found they had a problem) the diffs themselves were very, very prone to diff failures.. multiple reasons.... apparently couldn't handle the power, even of a Holden V6....

I heard around the station that metro Police in Sydney weren't all too fond of the Crewmans handling in the wet compared to the Rodeo...

I remember reading quite a while ago that holden where to build 4 body styles off the ve platform, and they were going to go sedan, lwb, ute, crewman, and wagons were to be dropped. Now that the wagon and ute are in the pipeline, the demise of the crewman would seem very likely.

Interesting to see that all of the small volume models approved for production during Peter Hanenberger's reign have been cancelled by Dennis Mooney:
One tonner ute - gone Adventra - gone Two door Commodore - gone Crewman - gone This leaves Holden with the SWB sedan, LWB sedan, ute and wagon models. Now that GM is building the LWB in China: Click here for review of Chinese manufactured Statesman/Caprice equivalent I predict the LWB model will be the next model to get the chop. But Holden would still have the export market to the middle east for LWB, I wouldn't think that it would be dropped.
If Ford could have gotten the middle east deal for the LWB than the models wouldn't have got the axe. |

Crewmans death demonstrates why Ford didn't do a twin cab Falcon ute. Now that Ford Aus has the job reengineering the new Ranger platform, the likelihood of them ever doing a twin cab Falcon ute are buckleys to none.

Their running Rodeos for the Divvy vans/dog squad/forensics, Tritons for the country trucks, and the mix of the usual falcons and commodores in between with a few 380s and Patrols here and there. Obviously it's up to each individual local command area, but the above seems to be the norm. |
