I think you would need to change the dash in order to fit the cluster in, I believe they're different shapes.
Then again its been a while since I've been in dad's BA so I've kinda forgotten the way it looks.

BA cluster is squared off, AU is oval, its not impossible, but youd need to do some serious restyling (hacking up!!) of your dash to first make it fit, then Id imagine you may run into some electronic problems with the differences in signals, which you could probably overcome by intergrating the circuitry of an AU dash / guages somehow behind the BA fascia.
Not impossible, but certainly not for the faint hearted, definiteley easier to swap the entire Dash and then just tackle the electrical side. To get around the electrics, it may be easier to run a second ecu and/or bem from a BA and tap into the signals from all your sensors to run the dash displays without interfeering with engine management or body electronic controls

I reckon even the clusters in the standard BA's look better then the toop end ones in AU's. But I guess the BA's have to have something going for them

I recon the stocko AU looks like the fat smelly redhaired chick with bad acne and braces, compared to the BA which is a class act on first glance.
But put a bit of effort into the AU and its appearance really comes alive!

Plus the high series AU clusters have more gauges in the them then the B-series ... I reckon they skimped a lot on the B-series models.

Yes that is the one thing that shocked me when the xr8 and GT came out, they didn't have oil pressure and voltage. My old EB had them and my au has them but I don't know how well the AU ones work they don't seem to move much at all.

The voltmeter definiteley works, I watched it fall from 14V all the way down below 10 - then my car wouldnt start - so id say its accurate!
The oil pressure guage though?? I havnt even hooked up the sender!

yes the oil guage should drop when it is idling. My old EB did. I think its fake

I wouldnt be surprised if it takes a buffer value into account to stop the needle bouncing around all over the place same as the fuel guage. If so, it would show the median pressure and not the exact pressure at any precise moment - in which case it wouldnt drop when idling (depending on how long you idle for)

sorry, no way ever, the ba needs part of the icc, the bem, ecu & him modules to live. the ba cluster has a link to the icc & bem using hi-low can bus twisted network. so different to the au. also as others mentioned, the dash shape is more squarish and will not fit in au dash. the dials/needles & lcd's on the ba work differently too. you will also be without smartshield hence car won't start. not possible.

at minimum it will be extremeley difficult - and confusing, and you'll come across allot of problems in the process. You would leave your current ECU/BEM smartshield setup as it is to run the engine. You would then need to tap into all your sensor signal wires to run them to aditional looms for your BA ECU/BEM setup (the actual sensors themself, not just the dash return signal). The BA system would try to run the engine, but wouldnt be able to obviously if its not connected, but should still throw back the sensor signals you need to run the cluster, if this causes problems, you would need to experiment with resistors to let it think its doing things like firing injectors and sspark plugs. The other alternative is to put AU Dash circuitry behind the BA cluster/facia, dont know which way would be simpler - if your good with a soldering iron and circuit boards probably the latter but you would basicaly need to build a custom cuircuit board. Either way but both will require a LOT of man hours and confusion!.
