Did anyone notice anything odd about the 302 GT Cobra at Sydney's Motorshow recently?

Dude, are you smoking something? A few conspiracy theories within a few minutes. Nice work!
The only odd thing about it was the likely chance that it was not a Cobra at all; just a mock up, which is fair enough as its not driven anyway.

It did have me scratching my head? If someone like me actually purchased that car?
It would be worth no more than a used XT or futura? Confusion! Yet if it has the correct tags then it is suddenly worth an extra $60k? please explain? |

Nah that's it..No data dots, no build tag, nothing...but all the cobra goodies...
It opens a big can of worms in my opinion. |

The Cobra's are just tarted up GT's, albeit very nice ones. No dramas at all as it was probably either sent to the crusher, or stored for the MMS, or sent back to FPV to be used as a development car.

SO many cars at these shows are just to show off the new cars, with people opening and closing doors, sitting in them with ice creams, prams brushing against them, unless roped off, these are just show cars. | [/url] |

So shouldn't that be 402 sedans! As there was no build Number on the Motorshow car!
and .. what about the one that drove around bathurst - that wouldn't have been a customers car surely?? |

Im not here to stirr the pot but the ford staff said it themselves that the 400 sedans were already sold!
So it begs the question, what is a non Build plated 401 or 402 car worth? Jeremy. |

There is a damn good chance the one at Bathurst was a real one, im sure any owner would love the fact that lowdnes or whoever it was drove it around on the day. That would add value if anything. Motorshow cars are rarely, if ever, actually the real thing. You must be one curious person, as all of this doesn't really matter anyway.

Well let me rephrase - more importantly how would these particular cars be identified later down the track?

It was either a Mockup or a press car, which will not be sold to the public. They did the same for the BAGT, ELGT, T Series Falcons etc. No Data Dots, no nothing. They can't use a 'limited edition' car, which people will try and keep good at a Motor Show. How many $60,000+ cars were unlocked. I couldn't get into a car that I was --><-- that close to paying a deposit on, even when I asked. Ford aren't (although we say they are) stupid.
Things get stolen, things get broken (hell, one of the Mondeos had bits missing from the engine bay). Don't think too much into it, or you will obsess over something not worth half a minute of your time.

OK lets clear something up.
It IS possible that some motorshow cars during history have been sold. No doubt about it. These cars would have been up on a stand, and not touched by anyone (you would hope). Sometimes development cars are used for show cars or concepts (DRIFT6, the Territory thing etc) and these are never ever sold or even driven by the "public". I know at Ford there was an EL GT out the back, just sitting there, doing nothing other than collect bird poo and rusting away. Ford employee's couldn't even get parts off it (I tried hard..LOL). These are also crushed. Now this Cobra, apparently had no tags. So, that means it was a GT of some sort, and they retro fitted the interior and stuck on some stickers. Thats it. Now when its not useful anymore it will be killed, not sold. It was not a "cobra" at all. Not that any of this makes any difference.

Sorry I don't really see what the issue is - are you suggesting that if the Cobra was an additional Cobra to the 400 allocated units, it would some how raise a resale issue to the other 400?
If anything it was just a production mule, which will probably be a company car for someone at FPV for a while before they dis-assemble the car and it turns up at the wreckers 4 years later minus the go fast bits. Or they just turn around and sell the damn thing as if it's a poser. |

I understand 100 percent what you are saying and nicely said.
It only makes a difference if someone tries to sell off the 'Supposed' motorshow car or 'Bathurst' car in 10 or so years for a fortune and no one can identify it.? If ford can Identify the car and confirm or deny it as 'Going to the crushers' or as a test mule..no problems at all. |

1 example - this car was never sold - Developmental two door monza car of Brock's. No Build Tags...
It sat out the back of Paul Wakelings Holden for 20 Odd years Recently repurchased in 2005 by an enthusiast... How could it be verified. Records were kept... |

Sm0ked, on the bottom right of the computer screen there is are some numbers and a dayname. Double click on it. On the widget that pops up you will see a year. Please note the first three digits. they are not 198 nor are they 199. This is 2007 and the laws have changed.
Engineering and development vehicles do not have to comply with ADRs and are only allowed on the road for testing purposes. They can never be registered for any other use and are normally crushed although some do become race vehicles e.g. Drif6 or museum pieces e.g. at the Discovery Centre or get turned into promo/concept vehicles e.g. the blue terri at the FPV day or the Cobras about which you are obsessing. THEY CANNOT BE SOLD TO ORDINARY PEOPLE (or even to paranoid conspiracy theorist forum lurking yetti goose creatures)...... |

You can see where the early Commodores and Camiras took their styling from.
