Default AU 5lt Shift-Kits from shiftkits.com.au

I had a quick look and couldn't find if this question had been asked, so has any1 on here got 1 on there V8 Au, was it worth the money? was the installation a bastard? is it a fairly hard shift? ( i'm not after the dual stage) any feed back will be good

If its going into an XR model you already have adaptive shift anyway so Id try putting that into max performance mode before fitting the kit, you might find it shifts hard enough.

Yeah I've heard about that we can do it at work (ford dealership) it is an XR, It dose shift harder in adaptive shift mode, but It's like everything just want a little more.

Doesnt need to be done by a Ford dealer, the shift mode can be changed by anybody, its in the owners manual.

WDS wont let you modify the shift points from the factory settings from memory, its been a long time since I used one though!

I put the shift kit in my XR* and it took about 30 minutes to install. All the instructions are provided and its simply cutting one wire and connecting a wire to each cut end then tapping into another wire. I like the kit because I can turn it on if i want to drive hard and turn it off when I don't. For $110 you cant go wrong. Get the one that is fully adjustable. Its only a few dollars more and gives you more options.

can this be done externally or you have to drop the pan?

Its done at the ECU in the left kick panel in the passenger seat. You take the kick panel off and remove the ecu. All the wires that need to be cut are sticking out the top of the ecu. You then need to find a place for a switch to turn it off and on. I mounted mine in the ashtray (so its hidden and a bit 007ish) then you mount the pot that adjusts how hard the changes are. I put mine under the steering column towards the rear of the plastic cover. Just so its a bit hidden but you can access it while your driving. Mine is set on MAX which is the hardest setting. Harder and faster changes.

From my understanding the actual gear change, as in the time it takes to change from 1st to 2nd etc, is controlled by the ECU. Unlike commodores where its a mechanical thing in the box itself. So the shift kit jast makes the change quicker. If a normal change from 1st to 2nd takes 3/4 of a second the shift kit lets you adjust it from 1/2 second to less. My XR now does chirpies from 1st to 2nd and it would not do that before even in power mode.

The WDS or PDS dosen't change the shift points but it dose allow the adaptive shift mode to be on full time,

Mine dosen't chirp either thats what I'm after I had an EB XR8 with a mechanical shift kit and a 2500stahl and that was great fun

Adaptive shift can be set to be on full time using the instructions in the owners manual, doesnt need WDS to do it..

You can set it to be in either performance mode, econmy mode, or adapative shift.

JUST DONE MINE.

holds gears longer at low and at high rpm, revs to 6000rpm in drive, shifts firmer.

What do you adjust it with? I want the shift fairly hard I'm getting one for sure, just like yourself every1 that I've spoke to about them said they are great

There is a variable resistor with a knob that you mount in the cockpit of the car (along with the on/off switch for the kit).

I leave my kit always on, and just adjust the shift firmness where I want it. I've got my adjuster knob thing mounted in the fuse panel cover.

yeh i got the budgo one but still happy with it, it's only off or on and when on i think its only medium but still chirps 2nd. im really happy with mine, and i get funny looks from my mates when i reach down and flick it on! also found with it on and in economy the shifts r less harsh.

Just got my shift kit, in the instructions it says to cut and or tap into wires from pin numbers on the ecu, are the numbers marked on the ecu?

If you look closely at the loom plug, you will see the pin numbers.

Not all are numbered, just the end pins, but enough that you can count back and work out what is what...
