Default AU E-Gas Performance Mods

I've got a 2000 AUII Styleside Ute factory e-gas and i've put on a set of 4499 pacemakers and a 2.5" exhaust system with redback muffler at the rear.
The car is an auto as well.

I'm after more power and was considering putting in the AU xr6 cam and getting the head shaved.

1. Whats the safest I could get shaved off for running lpg?
2. Will the XR6 cam work well with this?

Thanks,

Josh

I had an aftermarket cam fitted by my mechanic (who actually created the grind for it anyway) ... and it has really beefed up low to mid-range torque. It increased top-end a bit as well.

I haven't done headwork on it though ... haven't been bothered and really don't want the ute off the road too long either.

If you are around town all of the time (ie: don't hit the highway) ... I suggust running a shorter diff gear in the rear ... I am thinking about going from 3.23:1 to a 3.7 ... just to boost off-the mark performance ... and bring the revs up a little more across the speed range ... will suit the cam I have a bit more as well.

An EDIT can be done on these as well ... but I havn't bothered with it as yet .... I need to spend money on other areas at the moment.

Oh ... increase the size of your intake as well ... I found just replacing the pipe from the airbox to the first bend with a 3" piece of pipe made a significant difference.

Hee hee ... that's funny.

If I was after decent power though .... I'd be bolting a blower to it and going from there ... Snort Performance have been developing a lower boost version for the EGAS for a little while ... was tempted to get it as well ... was a little out of my price range.

Would have been fun though.

A centrifugal blower would complement your cam nicely IMHO. Slogging around in traffic with revs under 2400 or so would keep boost (and engine wear) to minimal levels and use the torque characteristics of the cam. Step into it in the midrange and up, and the blower takes over. Sounds like the best of both worlds.

The good thing with EGAS ... I don't need to worry about larger injecters ... editing the ECU .. etc.

It's not as complex as setting up a S/C on a petrol vehicle ... I'd probably have get an adjustable power valve instead of using the Stepper motor though ... but that's about the only thing ... and no cooler necesssary for a low boost setup on LPG too.

It is tempting ... and the oodles amount of torque that accompanies a blower is very very appealing.

Was that cam a one-off or does Joe sell them to the general public?

I was the guinea pig just to see what it was like ... but it's a normal grind ... based of his Stg 2 E-series grinds ... but with different lobe seperation for LPG.

Without tune ... it made 18rwkw/40Nm more than factory (with a restricted mixer ring still) ... peak torque started before the 80km/h ramp speed in 3rd ... so I find it wanting to really pull from 2000rpm.

I'll dig up a price list as well. Although from memory ... was well priced ... and cheap on exchange basis as well.

I am using a vernier gear as well on mine.

Oh ... has a really nice lopey idle that rocks the ute a little ... idles fine though.

Might be a bit of action in my build thread next year George, now thinking...

Crescent cam + Raptor blower + SSI throttle body + LPG injection = ????

Might have to get a G-tech LOL.
