Default Ford has suprisingly good December??

Still waiting to confirm source but these are very interesting figures.

First off the Falcon is only 531 units behind the Commodore which for a model four months away from replacement is a good result. Are Ford doing a massive discount runout?? Pretty bad December result for the Commodore which I thought would be selling 5000+

What is more suprising is that while the Territory scraped in at 14th place the Kluger is nowhere to be soon. So much for burying the Territory.

On a sad note the Commodore Ute outsold the Falcon Ute by about 500 units and considering the Falcon ute has a lot more variants is a pretty bad result but may come down to the Commodore Ute being new.

Overall not a overly impressive result for Ford but considering the age of the Falcon/Territory platform and petrol hitting $1.50 Ford is doing fairly well against it's niche competitors.

If you want to look at figures from a different light:

Commodore platform(sedan,ute)= 5188 vehicles
Falcon platform(sedan,ute,SUV)= 5433 vehicles

with results like this, the Orion might be the BA to the BF [AU] (if you know what I mean...)

don't see any Mondeo's on that list, could be because it is so new or is it not expected to ever hit that list?

I don't think that Ford sales are that good, it is just Holden sales are unexpectedly bad.
Does anyone have any ideas why the Commwhore sales have slumped so much. It can't be because of xmas because Falcon sales are better than November (I think)

could be the look of the car; for many it's either love it or hate it

could also be the current fuel issue (a shift to smaller cars, also i heard that the VE uses more fuel than it's previous model?) or the domination by Toyota in the market (5/10 cars in top 10 are Toyota)

I'm kinda dumb stuck that the kluger isn't there, same with the mondeo. Still don't know why people buy the barina and the getz...I am glad the epica isn't on the list

I sill reckon more VEs have been sold cause half of them are police vehicles! I look at every poverty pack VE as being an undercover, who else would waste their time driving one of them??

Fords only bringing 200 mondeos a month to AUS, so for them to get on that list they would nearly need 4 - 5 months supply!

Holden had a very bad month, there wasnt any supply issues but i think the new XR's are killing SV6 / SS sales, people are going for the car with all the fruit rather then the newer model.

Orion will have a few 5000 + months when its realeased id say, theres quiet a few people already lining up for XR6 Turbos etc (after what happened with BA).

Yes, the fact that most of those buyers have been waiting 6 - 12 months for their new cars has also helped (pre ordered).

They can get 500 Mondeos per month, not 200. Not enough supply to make the top 30.

As for the Falcon ute, the Orion ute has the advantage of being within a few months of the VE ute release, so it won't be long until the VE ute has competition, unlike the VE sedan which was launched a long time ago and left the Falcon sedan to struggle on in its old form. I reckon the Orion will outsell the VE from launch, at least initially.

Common everyone knows that you cant take these figures on a month by month basis.

For all we know Ford may have registered a refresh with Telstra, which could have been in excess of 200 cars

The few months that Ford outsold Holden a year or so ago was due to a few delivery's to large fleets which Ford had scheduled deliberatly to distort sales.

Compare Orion to VE - will Orion polarise in the same way that VE has? As long as there is less Mondeo and more Falcon, it should have a fair whack at position 2.

I don't think it will polarise, but you can't please everyone. Everyone I know who's seen it likes it, even the Holden diehards I work with who seem to hate the look of the VE.

I wonder if Landcruiser sales include the 75 series. And I imagine most are still the old 100 series and not the 200.

The reason Toyota sell so well is a quite simple one. They have a brilliant reputation for reliablity and Customer service. I'm not saying Toyota's are brilliant cars, but the public perception says there are.

Personally I don't think that Toyota's are as good as most people think. Look at the recent evidence, Aurion recalls, Rav V6 sales halted and most recently a 6 Speed gearbox in a Land Cruiser that has a useless 6th gear, and others I can't recall at the moment.

Another reason is Toyota's reputation for efficient vehicles. The 4 cyl Camry is only barely more efficient than an XR6, and barely has enough power, yet people keep buying them over Falcons thinking that being a 4 cyl it will save them bucket loads of cash, reality is it will probably only save a regular driver only $5 a month but most regular people don't do enough research to know the real figures.

As I said, Reputation is all Toyota's have. A simple reason for their huge sales figures but a very hard one for Ford to replicate.

XR6_190 - Toyota also have a car in EVERY segment. From Small, Small/Medium, Medium, Large, Small SUV, Medium SUV, Medium 4x4, Large 4x4, People Carriers x2, etc. It isn't that they are good, but like VB, it is plentiful. Ford don't have half of them.

A friend quipped that a Toyota salesman (when he was looking at a Corolla for his Mrs.) remarked that "it isn't what model car you want next, but what model Toyota." My mate bought a Lancer VRX.

There are Toyota Aurion's everywhere here in Adelaide. I'm surprised they 'only' sold 1751 units. I was expecting them to be matching, or be better than Falcon sale numbers to be honest.

Yes Hertz now use them for their standard full size sedan. Same fleet price as an XT, better resale.
