Default Oil Pressure problem

Hey recently... for some reason only at night.. my oil pressure guage will drop to zero and sound that stupid high pitched beep... but other times/days it wont do it. One of my mates said it might be a loose wire going to the sensor. 2 thinks wrong.. 1) no idea were the sensor is 2) never had to deal with sensors. I owned an 83 Mazda 626.. so im still new with all the electronics

Get all your earthing points checked ... it's a common issue.

Is your's a 6 or an 8???

The 6-cylnder oil pressure switch/sender is located on the passenger side of the engine block ... just in front of the engine mount (just behind the coilpack) ... it's a right pain to get to though.

It's a 27mm socket. A good mate lent me his as I didn't have one. I used a stack of extensions (mixed combination of length) and a uni joint to get the angle right.

You need to remove the airbox. Here's a few pics of when I did mine.

You could just remove the airbox and have a wiggle of the connecting wire. It may have worked a bit loose.

Hi Brad
My AU XR8's oil pressure gauge started going the same thing. Dropping to zero then flying up to the top of the gauge. Then go for days operating normally. When it started dropping to zero more often, and with the wiring looking ok, I decided to just replace the sensor to start with, which on the V8 is at the front of the block and can be just easily unscrewed. Screwed in a new sensor, $55 from Ford, no more problems, hasn't missed a beat since. Thats was about 9 months ago. So I would start with a new sensor and take it from there.

hey thanks all, its a 6 'mechan1k'. so its under neither thats crap. the wiring looks ok like doesnt seem look any were. anything else i can do before i go out and purchase a new one ?
