Default Oil rating question

I have an AU Ghia series 2 inline 6 on gas and just had an oil change. They put 10W/30.SJ grade oil in and now i have engine noise, sounds like lifters. It's noticable but not overly loud. Is this the right oil they should have used? I don't remember hearing this engine noise before. Cars done 127,000km .Thanks.

It's the right grade of oil but this will open up the great oil discussion/debate yet again! LOL!

People usually just keep on changing viscosity until they get one that's the quietest.

Both my I6 AUs are on gas.
I've used Magnatec 10/40, never again. Engine was noisy and it came out like water after 10,000 kays.
Next was Penrite HPR10 Gas 10/50, good, engine quieter.
Shell 15/50, best so far, but it'll be too thick as the weather cools off. Next oil change, I may look for another 10/40 to try, or go with the Penrite again.

Lots of gas owners really like Penrite and there's a few who like Penzoil products as well.

Hope that helps, but as each engine wears a little different etc, etc, you may have to try a few until you get one that works for you.

You could do the changes yourself if you have ramps. It's an easy job.

Have a lookie here.

All the best with it.

I run what the factory specifies for me ... and that's a 15w40 for the EGAS models.
I used the Shell LPG oil the majority of the time ... works well ... comes out clean every 5000km

i was gettign heaps of lifter noise, at first i thought it was the headers, so i tightened the bolts and it went away for ages.

but came back really bad over the last 2 weeks.

checked my oil level, which was fine 2 weeks ago and low and behold, next to no oil in the engine :|

filled up with 10W30.

most of the noise is gone. still a bit there, but nothing as brutal as it was. hopefully no damage.

dunno where the oil went, there arent any leaks i can see.
