I have read somewhere that Ford brought some TC's in from South Africa with the 3lt v6 in them for evaluation prior to launching the TC 6 cylinder. I do remember one at Summernats a while back with NSW plates VEE 600 but other than that nothing.
Does anyone have any info???

I remember reading about one, not sure if it was a private import or not though. You are right wodahs, it would have been the Essex V6, ahthough in Germany they would have been built with the Cologne V6 as well.

The South Africans used both the 3.0lt and 2.5lt V6 Essex engines in their TC Cortinas. There was one in a street machine years ago...purple with pink rocker covers (very 70's)
The cologne V6 is a very different motor to the Essex forund in Capris, but some later TE/TF (Mk4&5) Cortinas had 2.3lt colognes fitted with C3 autos in Europe....Mainly wagons. The V6 Essex was available as a conversion through a UK tuner named Jeff Uren. They were badged as a "Savage Cortina." He also did 2.0lt Escorts in the early 70's a few years before Ford got around to it in 1974. Granadas were sold along side the Cortinas in Britain. They were in-btwen the Cortina and Falcon in terms of size, although the Falcon was never sold in Europe. |

Thanks for the info Guys. If I can track one of these or a straight 4.1 litre TE down I'll be a happy man

I remember seeing that TC V6 in a Street machine magazine a few years ago.
The bonnet differed from any other Cortina that I have seen in that the raised centre section is a lot higher than a standard bonnet. Very much in the same way that all Aussie TE and TF Cortina's have a higher centre section to their bonnet than their equivalent MK4 and MK5 brethren thus not needing the TC/TD bulge to clear the air cleaner on the 6 cylinder versions. |

There was also a mk2 cortina with a v6 essex motor in it.
the tc td cortinas also had the same motor as well as imports... I have an escort fitted witha v6 essex in it, it is a tight fit but you should be able to make it fit in the corty alot easier than i got it in the eski. |

Also forgot to say the raised section on the cortina mentioned i think is from choice and not a factory or needed option as my eski all i have is my airfilter out of the bonnet and only because i chose to and the rest is under bonnet and im running a holley with a high rise manifold too

The TC and TD Cortina's had the bulge in the bonnet to clear the 6 cylinder rocker cover and air cleaner. The four still had the flat bonnet. All aussie TE and TF's had the raised centre of the bonnet regardless of engine capacity. I'll have to watch my dvd again to see if the english cars had it or not
The savage was a limited run of mk2's fitted with v69's by an english tuner again i'll have to watch my dvd again to get the full story. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the pastel blue VEE 600 NSW rego'd TC v6 that was at Summernats in 92. Could they let me know
