Default Fairlane & ltd gone...But wait!!!

Just having a thought about the Fairlane and ltd disappearing faster than cheap petrol prices and can only think of one big thing to come out of this, nameplates such as these can be dropped and be replaced with replacements but who can say that a revival of the old nameplates can't be used in the near future when the time is right.... just a thought.

Given that Holden has done it before ie dropped the Statesman only to re-introduce it again. Yes, certainly do-able but Holden had a reason, that is, big cars were selling well in the late '80's. However, it is quite the opposite now and I don't see things changing any time soon.

Would be nice though.

Agree with Paull.
Besides that, I think the G6E is supposed to have as big an interior as the BF fairlane, so there wouldn't be much point. Face it, the fairlane like Elvis, is gone.

When did Holden drop the Statesman? It ran from the HQ (or before?) until now didnt it? It's just it was only the WB in the 80's and not a Commodore derivative, or were their only WB Caprices? Then the VQ when the VN came out.

There was a gap between the WB and VQ. Around 5 yrs I believe. Big cars are not going out of style, people just want an economical/environmentally friendly way of running them. I think the Fairlane and LTD names will be replaced, but there will be a similar sized car. Just like Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car are all names that will be dropped and probably be replaced by acronym or alphanumeric names, which seem to be more modern.

There were no Statesman from July 1985 to March 1990
I don't think it was dropped, just not available.

Ford haven't ruled out returning the Fairlane name, if exports do happen in the future it may return or even rebadging a Lincoln or Mercury as a Fairlane if Ford decide to bring them over here like Holden have done with Cadillac.

I think Ford should globalize the Lincoln brand, like GM have done with Cadillac. The Mercury brand is supposed to be following the Plymouth and Oldsmobile brands (into non-existance) With Ford selling off Jaguar and Land Rover, they could do with their own global premium brand to compete with Cadillac, Lexus, and who knows what Nissan will do with Infiniti

Ha ha ha good one.
I suppose the like elvis's songs that are still around, the fairlane and LTD are the same way with many examples still circulating. Who knows, in 100-200 years my LWB fords may be worth something; unless of course the green anti whaling, anti carbon anti v8 mob haven't taxed the shite out of it.
