A friend is looking at getting an FG XR6T Auto Falcon. He likes the car but he doesn’t like the standard colours that are available.
He is after a gloss black finish – with no metal flake, no pearl effects. Just plain old boring gloss black. The closest of the Ford standard colours is Silhouette (prestige colour an extra $400) it looks like a dark grey. How receptive are Ford to non standard colours? I understand that if you were a big client (e.g. Taxi companies or large corporate clients (100+ examples)) they might do special runs for you. But if you are just one piddly example what are your chances? Is there anyway his XR6T could go through the paint line get the Silhouette base color, skip the pearl and metallic sprays then get a clear top coat (which I assume all new Fords get)? Are the “effects” included in the base colour sprays these days? Any ideas fellas? I’ve seen Territory company cars for Tupperware and they were painted pink. How were they done? Are they a respray over an original white body?

I would say the chances of getting one out of the factory would be zero.
He'd have to buy one and have it painted.

1. Ford don't do taxi's - they are bought second hand and repainted by the owners.
2. Off standard colors are NOT done by Ford - they are repainted afterwards. 3. If your mate wants a special color he'll need to buy a car and have it reprayed. |

In regards to the Tupperware cars and TNT freight vans and whatnot, the colour on them is usually just a giant vinyl sticker.

Yeh the Tupperware cars are stickered...
As for the Cabs they use to do Melbourne Yellow from factory, but i beleive that has now ceased.. QLD orange / yellow have always had to be painted up here. |

Ford do NOT do Taxis in Australia - next time you catch one ask the cabby where the Cab came from. Resprayed fleet cars. Ford of Australia DON'T do Taxi packs anymore. Not since uncle Geoff canned them in 2002 !! |

Back on topic.
Sihlouette is not very metallic, have you seen it in the flesh? That would be a safe choice imo. |

The inconvience is the painting NOT the mat's, that's why Ford Stopped doing taxis. More colors for XR's NOT other colors for non value added models. EOS. |

sorry guys but barraxr8 is right about ford not doing taxi packs anymore my father is a taxi operator and he had to replace 2 cars earlier this year both were bought new and we had to respray them
i know this cause we've had taxis for a long time and the last factory taxi pack we boyght was an au series 2 just before they got canned because. we had an ef 5 seater taxi pack we bought new from ford and i think that was the last model to come in a 5 seater. |

Ford still sells taxi-pack Falcons in NSW. You can buy them through City Ford Sydney, Thompson Ford Parramatta and a few other dealerships. They did throughout the life of BA and BF.

I know certain dealerships sell taxi packs, but I don't know if they are sourced from Ford Australia or are dealer fitted. I guess RATT would know? Remember, most Sydney taxis are plain old winter white with fleet fitted vinyl packs, so there is no need to respray them. Melbourne and Brisbane are a different story. |

Last FACTORY taxi pack falcon I seen was a BA Mark II late 05... It came from factory with steal rims, no badges (they were in the glove box), vinyl seats, rubber floor... I remember the car well as it was damaged on the truck and had to have the rear guard repainted before it went to yellow cabs to be painted orange.

hahaha. Reminds me of the back seat conversations i hear between my neice and nephews!
AS has been said, ZERO chance of getting the car in plain old black, It wont cost much to get it re sprayed in flat black anyway since the car wont need any panel work, or engine bay painted. |

I would have preferred a solid black instead of silouette on my GT-P, but bugger me, I aint gonna take it to my painter, it would still cost me 20k + to paint it. He would want it back to metal to fix every factory imperfection and painted in the best paint available.
I am a little old fashioned and prefer non pearl paint jobs (fords prestige paint) with solid colours. I dont mind some candys, but depends on the car. As for a one off custom colour order through the factory, you would have more hope of finding 100 years world supply of crude oil under your house. Aftermarket respray is the only option here.

Ford no longer have taxi yellow available, it was ditched during the early days of BA when demand was very strong, so the taxi yellow was ditched as Geoff Polites thought it was a better idea to sell cars to private buyers rather than cheap fleet buys like taxis as they are more profitable. Ditching the taxi yellow also allowed them to have another color available for the XR's. It was also his idea because he thought taxis being predominately Falcons was bad for the cars image. Silhouette is black, it isn't dark grey. He's better off ordering a silhouette colored one and then get a professional spray painter apply some sort of top coat to change the shade if that's what he really wants. Cheaper than getting the whole car resprayed a different color as he could probably get away without having to spray the engine bay etc. |
