Default Next mods for AU2 XR8

Hey guys.

I just want some advice from other people with AU XR8`s.....

I have an auto 200kw S2 XR8....Really want a manual is the first problem, plus the price of AU`s has dropped...so....do i put a manual in this one or just flog it and go buy a 220kw manual?

Ok then there is, if i do keep the 200kw whats the next mods...i have air intakes extractors exhaust K&N Panel Filter. I dont know if flash tuning would be the next smart thing to do. Is there any more things to do before i start looking at super chargers and 347 kits?

Thanks!

does anyone know what time a stock or near stock 220 manual runs 1/4? I thought it was high 14`s like 14.7 14.8?

a stock 220 manual will only go as fast as the driver lets it. shifting takes abit of work to get right, especially 3rd. launching the car i have found to be the hardest thing, only a couple of hundred revs difference can iether cause the car to bog down, or smoke the hell out of the tyres.

Not true. These old Windsors love being hammered!

In all seriousness, if you look hard enough you will find one in mint condition.

Trouble is finding one period. I was looking for months and found a couple of manual 220s but the prices were too inflated. Ended up getting an auto.

If you want the 220 manual, I would sell yours rather than putting a manual in yours. If you decide to sell or trade yours after you have converted it to manual, you will find that you will take a beating cos it is no longer original (of course I'm talking about what car dealers will think - not necessarily private buyers, cos private buyers may look past the mod and actually see it as bonus).

i put mine down to $15k, bout 6 months ago and got no takers.

now though im not selling, the past 6 months i have changed my driving style completley and no longer give the car a hard time all of the time. it gets the occasional squirts here and there, but generally i like to cruise it.

AU3 220s are pretty expensive (for a 6 year old car) [but well worth it]
I dont know that you'd get much for your AU2 XR8 though, you might get burnt pretty bad in the current climate selling a V8 (I guess it depends on what sort of deal you could manage on the 220)

You should probably look at what Auto 200kw XR8s are going for, and how much manual 220kw XR8s are going for and work out a (reasonable) difference then compare that to what a manual conversion would cost. You might be better off sticking with your XR8 for the long haul.

Another question: why do you want a maunal? For the overall experience, or to go quicker at the drags etc?

I reckon AU3 XR8s are dirt cheap - especially compared to a VX SS of the same vintage. Up to 5 grand cheaper and (in my opinion) a much more visceral driving experience.

I have seen with my own eyes 3 separate totally stock AU3 XR8s (all very well driven) run 14.2 second quarters at Motorplex. I put this consistency down to the hand built engine thing?

Definitely sell yours and buy a manual. Be patient with selling to get a decent price and be patient when buying to find the exact car you want. Add an exhaust and edit (like Whoosha says) and you'll have what I think is the perfect combo of old school muscle and modern driveability.

I just sold my AU220 and I'm still grieving.......

There is saying "Better the devil you know, than the one you dont" .

Ask your self a phew questions.
How is your car in overall condition ?
will you replace it with one that is better eg ( options, condition etc )
Are you happy with it, colour , options, condition , modifications you have made. ? ( apart from the 5 speed )
If you stroke it the t5 is going to struggle, so eventualy you will have to replace it with a stronger box.

IMO if you fit a 70mm throttle body and flash it ( wich you will have to do when you fit the 5 speed, to remove auto torque tabs) you will sh-t in 220 kw ATFW with out a sweat.
If you search patiently you will find a 5 speed conversion for a decent price.
It all boils down to where you want to go with it. The answers are in your questions.
And your Answers will answer your questions. :

Cheers Mick.

If you're a maunal kinda guy, and love your car (atm except for the trans) then I'd consider what Pursuit 250 said.

You should be able to pick up a complete kit up for under $2,000 with change in your pocket.
but be patient, if the right kit comes along dont hesitate to pay that litle bit more.

Cheers Mick.
