Default Front Hub Options

Hi All,

Getting the suspension work done on the wagon soon and want to get Pedder’s to install new front bearings whilst they have it.

I’ve got these options, from ebay.

1. Genuine Ford bits $200 for both sides delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FRONT-BRAKE-H...QQcmdZViewItem

2. Genuine Ford bits $180 for both sides delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-AU-BA-BF...QQcmdZViewItem

3. After market bits $140 delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-A...QQcmdZViewItem

4. After market bits $150 delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-A...742.m153.l1262

What do you reckon. I’ve bought original bits before for the SR and they’re working out fine. Will the aftermarket items be fine? Anyone used them?

ALSO

I might go for this ball joint set also. What are your thoughts people? Is the price okay for such a set?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-AU-BA-BF...742.m153.l1262

Cheers,

GK

I was looking at those ball joint sets also for when I put my TE uprights in, I reckon price seems pretty good. And if it was me I'd go genuine Ford for the bearings.

I went for the ones from CarsRus and i wouldnt again.. they are on the car and they work fine.. When i was putting htem on the back bearing plate/guard thing came off but it went back on ok and its fine.. it all went on ok.. and no bad sounds or anything

But i regret not going genuine ford for the slightly bit of extra money...

Thumbs up

Thanks for that info guys.

Genuine it will be.

Good news is that Pedders will install them free as they put the front end all together again. They wanted $270 for the bearings themselves so I can save around $70 by using Bayford parts.

Also, they wanted $238 for top and bottom ball joints, Bayford have them for $110 so that's another big saving there. Installation will set me back $187 but that's okay.

I'll order the bits now.

Cheers,

GK

You have done well ... especially getting them from Ford ... although Bayford has the best priced Ford items though.

Although ... I have found FTG Autosalvage gets in new Ford items for cheaper than Ford themselves ... go figure ... I have used them countless times (external Territory mirrors are nearly half the price Ford want for them).

Wink

I just got back from Pedder's Campbelfield and after a long chat with them, have decided to go with XR springs on the front, so standard leaf setup on the rear (no extra spring) but about 15mm higher than the front, allowing for holiday loading! Aaaah holidays! LOL!

The shocks will be the Comfort Gas units with the new VRD (Velocity Response Damping) technology which will be much better than stock.

I got them to listen to the shocking noise it was making in the front end and they thought for sure that it was a lower ball joint. I've got upper and lower ball joints coming in tomorrow's mail along with some new front wheel bearing hubs.

A bit of a new bush here and there and the car will handle and ride better than new! LOL! It's booked in to be done on Monday.

Pics to come when it's all done and dusted.

So Justin, you get your way, the car will be lowered, albeit not quite as low as you requested! LOL!

Cheers all!

Looking forward to seeing some pics of the work GK - wonder if you can hang around Pedders with your camera and snap away without them getting annoyed ?

Probably not !

I doubt they'd let me do that Andy.

I'm still trying to sort out how I can drop it off, get to work (40 mins from home, 50 mins from Pedders), get home and back to Pedders to pick it up all within business hours.

It may even have to be next Saturday. In fact, that's probably best because I can wait there and get a look at the front height when they set it; to give them the nod or not. The rear leaf springs will be set about 15mm higher than the front to allow for holiday load droppage! LOL!

Either way, XR height or slightly lower, will be a magnificent improvement over the current looks and handling! :

Cheers,

GK

Talking

Good news.

I'm getting the work done tomorrow!

I called Pedders yesterday to advise of the difficulties in getting to them, to work, to them again, especially with the two kids and Mrs in the mix.

No probs though, they've got a loan car, which I'll drive to work and back to pick up the completed wagon tomorrow after work.

Sensational! LOL!
