I'm with RACQ for my 6cyl EL sedan. Cost me ~$59 a month, so $708 a year.

They had no problems with some of the add/removes/changes I've done to my car. I've taken the 'country pack' gear off, put on a standard bar, changed wheels etc. All legal, nothing fancy and they've not cared.

I don't think RACQ are an insurer who would want to insure a heavily modded vehicle, that's why Shannons, Justcars etc all those ones exist.

I insured the BA with Young & Cool (I think they call themselves Famous Car Insurance now), but they were the cheapest on a stock XR6, and I was 21 when I bought it.
Just Car wanted $4011 a year, to which I laughed and hung up.

I don't know where everyone gets this idea from. I just turned 22 and Shannons were happy to insure the XR8 for $1032pa, which is a good five hundred dollars cheaper than anyone else I asked. They allow unlimited mods, as well as a totally free windscreen every year. I do pay an age excess of $400 on top of the standard excess, but that is still far cheaper than anyone else as well.

On my 2001 Metallic Black VX Commodore I pay $3000 a year through NRMA. I tried about 6 different insurance mobs and only the NRMA would insure me. The others wouldn't cause of the modifications to the car, and my age. 18 year old male, Black Commodore with sports exhaust system and 18" chrome mags and a sports spoiler...

JustCar Insureance was best for me (about $660/yr) compared to AAMI, RACV, Bingle etc etc... but I needed to be a bit more flexible on the excess payment. I'm an old fart though and they probably think a 53 year old driving an '07 F6 Typhoon is a safe bet... I hope they're right, but I can honestly say the car get's every chance to do its thing!!!

I'm with CGU and pay $130.66 per month to insure the EL, the Peugeot, as well as home and contents on our home. That works out to $1567.92 per annum for 2 cars and a house. It helps when you live in the country.
The XE is insured with the RAA for 3rd Party Fire & Theft for $130 a year.

Insurance will vary depending on where you live, so by asking what other people pay may not be a true indication on what you will pay simply because you don't live where they live and they have a different driving history to you.
My advice is to either ring around and ask for quotes, or go to an insurance broker and get a quote from them.

AAMI at the moment. Paying too much I reckon.

$600 on an AU2 Futura (bog stock), market value of $8500.

Comments?

hmm that's pretty cheap BUT I've had my insurance battles with people insured with CGU and my insurer has won out both times (one where I was definitely in the right, got rear ended, the other where it was debated who was at fault ).

I reckon you get what you pay for, and I'd wager that the more expensive insurance companies would be more willing to put good lawyers on defending you if needed.

Shannons - have insured my past 2 cars and I have been with them since I was 19. $1400 per year for my ute with 19" rims, alloy heads and cam and all the other gear. Agreed value and I will not be changing insurance companies anytime soon!

Both my Sprint (not standard) and my '66 Chrysler 300 are with Shannons cost is $51.54 combined agreed value $53k. Been with Shannons for last 8 years, even my Turbo Trans-Am under finance and zero rating was $29 a month. No hassles with them, but also never had a claim.

I'd disagree with that. I used to be insured with Allianz as they were the cheapest. I had a claim with them and it was no hassles what so ever. Choice of my own repairer and it was repaired quite quickly.
It helped that I wasn't even in the car at the time of the accident though.

AAMI,

$309 or $321 PA FULL COMPREHENSIVE :

I have a few policies with AAMI, and these 2 figures are within a few days of each other on net banking lol - can't be bothered going out to the car to confirm.

Oh,and when I moved, the suppliment I had to pay for the new area was a whole $76 (for the remaining 9 months).

I elect to pay the highest level of excess, which reduces the premium by around half, and a good driving record with maximum NCB also helps...

OHHHH just worked it out lol... one of those above figures is CTP (prob the $309, the other is Full Insurance ;)

With those sort of prices, and petrol going the way it is, the Festiva ain't going to be replaced any time soon thats for sure ;)

Yeah but did it ever get to the point of going to court and/or did the other party deny fault? A colleague of mine also lost a case because his crappy insurance company sent a 'replacement' lawyer in on the day of the court case. The replacement was, by all accounts, terrible and had no idea about the case (even though it would've been fairly easy to disprove the other party's claims).

If an insurer isn't making much money out of you, I'd be almost willing to bet my left nut that they'd put their lowest-paid lawyer onto the case to try and maintain their profit margins.

E.g. NRMA is very cheap but I would never personally use them as my insurer.

Nah, as I said, I wasn't even anywhere near the car at the time (it was parked on the street), so at fault was a no brainer and that has been my only claim.
Allianz is a huge multinational insurer and CGU is quite large as well, so I doubt I'll have any problems.
One thing people might want to watch out for is who is the underwriter for the insurance they have. That might indicate on how good their representation would be in this kind of situation.

Don't forget that the reason I get it so cheap is that I live in the country. I also get $100 of rego as well. :

AAMI

They didn't have a problem with the XR4 having lowered springs in it whereas most of the others do, and I got them to include the modification on my policy in writing.

Read the small print of any insurance companies "disclosure statement" and speak to them personally about any mods to your car.......most of them I found out "do not insure any vehicle with any modifications at all"

Effectively you could be driving around with "no insurance" and not even know about it....until of course you need it!!, then of course your insurance company will make you well aware of their "modification policy" so they can get out of having to pay up!!
