Default Top Gear Australia Mag... Brilliant!

Picked up a copy of the new Top Gear Australia magazine yesterday, and I have to say the articles are all brilliant.
Theres tests on the new GT and F6 in there as well as an XR6T ute. The comparisons are not unrealistic and there is more of a comedic approach to the articles.
As a big fan of the show, I can't put it down. Makes motor and wheels look boring.
Cheers
Travis

I'm suprised. I thought it wouldn't be very good.

Will have to give it a go.

It's very good value, way thicker than wheels and motor. I must say though being a 'Top Gear' magazine you'd think their views would follow the show (they don't have to I know) but they are opposite in some cases such as the car guide at the back saying the VE is sexy, yet we've seen on the Top Gear TV show they find it pig-ugly (not an understatement, they really hated the looks).

Also where did they come up with the '4.9' 0-100 for the HSV R8 in the back?

If it's anything like TopGear NZ it will be a class above the rest.

I believe that the boffins back in the UK spent a fair bit of time getting the right people to write for the offshoot TopGear mags, as stated above, when the magazine is compared to Motor or Wheels it comes up trumps. Same in NZ with TopGear Mag in comparison to Autocar and Driver, lucky for us we get Motor and Wheels too.

Another plus vote from me as well. The local content really makes the issue a great read, amongst the international copy. Love the comments on the F6 blow-off !

"It's bollocks", or "it's the bollocks" ?

Big difference...

I still own the first issue of BBC Top Gear magazine way back from 1992, and when that was launched onto the market it really rocked the staid old Autocar and CAR mags into making a few changes rather rapidly !

Looking forward to picking up a copy of the Oz version !

Ill have to pick up a copy. To be honest Im not a fan of the UK mag, waaay to much advertising. I realise they need to make money but there is a limit.

I will happily stop buying Motor/Wheels for something else.

7.95 launch 70 for a year, 133 for 2
Have been buying the UK edition, nearly as good and going by the advertising mix here to stay. Wheels will have to fight hard for my next subscription, Motor have no chance.

Seen the TV ad yet?

They pretty much all are. Even EMAP's titles have been rolled into and are now part of ACP too. FPC seem to be not really taking any notice automotive and I reckon they will see off their titles in the near future also.

I'm not overwhelmed with the Mag. Too many ads, old content (especially the Clarkson HSV drive), and writers that still haven't found their creative voices. The FPV pictures in the back take the cake. Ford have a new model out, and TG are still using BF FPVs. I'm going to stick with Wheels and Motor.

Picked up a copy, great read. Lots of local content which was good, better then I expected. And much bigger then Motor and Wheels too. Don't think i'll be re-subscribing to Wheel's again.

I was a bit disappointed. I bought both the UK & Aus mag at the same time, and the Aus version is a blantent plagerised copy of the UK one. Don't get me wrong, it's their first mag, and with little material of their own, it makes sense to lift it straight from the pages of their UK couterpart, but it was disappointing.
Also the Aus writers were trying just a little too hard to pander to readers, using words like Daff, and Bollicks, which are not in common use in Australian language, so why use them? Good mag tho', and would definitly by it over the UK version, due to it being more relivent to our home shores than it's counterpart.

i got lucky when i bought the mag... and scored 2 top gear caps as well
strictly for the shops to advertise the new magazine, but the girls in my local wouldn't wear them, so i got them.

having said that, i enjoyed reading the mag, and will be waiting to see how the next few issues morph as the contributors hit their stride with the aussie version.

When you factor in a quarter of the mag is advertising and another quarter is for the buyers guide in the back its no bigger than Wheels or Motor, and half the articles are taken straight from the UK version.

Pretty average so far, but i'll give it another month or 2 to see how much Australian content they add.
