Default Is my car really a Ghia?

My Fairmont Ghia was rear-ended at low speed the other day. No major damage, just cosmetic. Ive gone through insurance (as it was his fault) and got quotes from a panel beater for the insurance company (so I can choose a repairer).

My panel beater called me yesterday to let me know of the quote - and while on the phone he said that when he rang Ford, they said that the VIN the panel beater gave was from a Futura!?! Now, no offence to Futura owners is intended, but I didnt buy one, did I???

I didnt think that Futuras could come with the VCT donk? I understand that the Tickford 'kit and wheels will fit on anything, badges are only badges, and the interior will fit also (with some work).

Im thinking that my panel beater wrote down/gave Ford an incorrect VIN. Or could it be that I have bought a Futura with Ghia badges?

Has anyone else come across this irregularity? I know its not major, but if she is a Futura, id like to know...

Edit: I didnt confirm the VIN with my panel beater as he left a message on my voice-mail...

what year model is it and does it have a fairmont dash (i.e climate control) or a normal dash?

Just checked your sig, looks like a fairmont dash to me.

yeah I checked your page too and it looks like a genuine ghia to me. Your panel beater may have go the VIN wrong when quoting.

I have a futura and it looks different to yours.

VIN numbers are basically the ID for every single car made by a company so they cant get it wrong. Your car will be a Ghia and the panelbeater has got the number wrong.

You may be able to ring Ford yourself with the right VIN and see what they say?

But yeah wouldn't sweat too much bout it, from what others are saying you've more than likely got the real deal

Don't forget that at some stage the information would have been entered into Fords databank which realise on humans to enter the info. Humans aren't perfect. But more than likely, incorrect number from panel beater to Ford.

As has already been said, it's definitely a ghia, and is most likely an error with the panel beater. There are plenty of examples around of cars with inconsistent vins though, so it could well be an error when the car was made.

Cheers for that boys and girls...

He probably did just write down/say the wrong VIN, but it was quite a shock when I heard it. Ive gotta get another quote for insurance, so I guess if Im told that it is a futura again, ill look further into it...

Thanks again
