Cool Why so many sportswagons?

For the last couple of weeks I see more and more of Holden Sportwagons, sometimes more than Ford FGs.
I can't understand it as according to the previous posts on this forums there's no market for wagons.

Has Holden marketing department won again?

Think I read somewhere that the Sportswagons outsold the Commo utes in the last month.

EDIT - they are certainly a handsome looking car, personally I'd buy a SUV if I needed wagon capability but maybe Joe Average wants something different. who knows...

Don't believe everything you read on forums....
Its been a few years since Holden introduced a new wagon & no doubt this has resulted in a bit of pent up demand from people who need this type of vehicle. Only natural then that initial sales have been good - but will taper off gradually.

Holden Sportswagon > BF3 Falcon Wagon

Sad but true, ok the Falcon wagon is a workhorse, but the VE is newer, quieter, much better looking, better handling and riding, comes in much higher trim levels and doesnt have the reputation as a Telstra line workers car.

Not surprised on bit, the B Series wagon shape dates back to the AU1, dare you to pick an unbadged Falcon AU1 to BF3 wagon from behind, its impossible. So there you have it, nothing to do with marketing just right product- Hell i wouldnt mind a VE SS Wagon if only the interior wasnt so lousy.

Ford thinks they're niche is a workhorse and they may be right, is there enough space in the Aussie market for two 'sports' wagons.

i actually like the sportswagons, ive seen a few of them and i think they look great! i cant wait for HSV to spruce one up and sell a Manta again :P.

theres a bloke around my area who's got an SSV wagon, SSV plates, HSV brake kit, HSV GTS 20's and exhaust. looks awesome

hey im sure if ford got off their asses to sell a nice V8 wagon they'd sell a few!

Just saw 2 FG GT's and 2 FG Trays and 3 XR6's on my drive around SE Burbs Vic today, Cant say I saw any Sports wagons or VE HSV's for that matter - that must mean the FG are selling better than the VE or Sports Wagon around SE Burbs of VIC : Wonder if i can take that to VFacts and they will record it

Doesn't surprise me seeing more Commy wagons, I reckon they look great and would have one for the wife no worries compared to SUV's anyday and she thinks the same.
I have seen more of these the last few weeks compared to FG's in my travels to work and back here in Sydney.
The usual suspects here will get on soon enough to talk the wagon down once again.

True they may be selling, but I believe that most of the sales are coming from existing commodore buyers anyway. With them being on the road last month sales of commodores dropped by nearly 100 units. So potentially they might sell 1000 wagons but sell 1000 less sedans give or take. It will be interesting to see this months figures.

They are a very nice looking car. If I could ignore the crap V6 drivetrain and get one with dedicated LPG I would be likely to buy one.

So true about the marketing deprtment though.
I'd still own a Territory over a Sport(s)wagon anyday.

He also has a VE GTS as a daily for his wife, and as for GTS rims, he has a few sets, with one set in black for the wagon.

Considering the VZ wagon stopped production nearly a year ago there is a bit of pent up demand for Commodore wagons. Will slow down within the next 2 months.

I think you'll find that the VE is the same body as the VZ.
I read about the VZ stopping production, and the (surplus) bodies of the VZ's, went into the new VE's.

Usually it seems that the wagon is always using a previous body shape but all that chages is the front area (hood bonnet etc etc).
Ford and Holden do it a lot.

Were you having a crack at the people on this forum with that last sentence?

Just because you see 5 Sports wagons doesn't mean they're in that density all over the country.

Grow up.

FFS do you people not understand that there is a market for HOLDEN V8 station wagons. These buyers want a HOLDEN V8 STATION WAGON, not a Ford, not a ferrari, not a gogomobile.

If FPV were to release a twin turbo V8 GT-W wagon that did a 9 second quarter mile, got 6l/100km and cost $29,995 drive away they would still buy the HOLDEN, because it is a HOLDEN.

Like there is a market for V8 falcons with GT on the side. If FPV were to release a far more powerful car with say a turbo 6 that looked basicly the same but did not have GT on it there are many people who would not buy it because it is NOT A GT and NOT A V8. You may know some of these people.

People buy what they want and just because it is something from the other camp Ford have to copy cat???
Holden marketing wins because they make a model that small group want and it sells well??? Do you think it will sell as well as the GT40 or Cobra?

Waaaaah!!! Waaaah!!!! Why can't Ford make all their models to be the same as Holden models but better and faster and sicker and tuffer and cooler and hotter so I can feel superior to all the holden bogans at maccas......

Rough day bud? You are right though. Im the one that wouldn't buy the turbo'd 6. cos they sound puss. :

P.S. I couldnt care less about the stupid things, I heard an add saying they are better than a wagon because it has sport in front of it. WTF????

Mate, You are way off, seriously look at the subject matter before you make embarassing statements like this.

Seriously though, I was behind a Calais V SportWagon V8, today and all I could think was that it didn't look twice the value of the Omega wagon (unfortunately it is nearly twice the price).

I do agree with a lot of the previous posts, the people that are buying these wagons wouldn't be buying a falcon wagon anyway, and even if Ford were to build a FG equivalent, I don't think that they would sell that many. Ford don't spend anything at all on R+D for the BFIII yet they still sell enough to make a healthy profit, it would be difficult for Ford to make a good business case for a decent upgrade.

The only Sportswagon I've seen in WA was on the side of the road, bonnet up.
