Yeah i've got 2 sitting here.

1 has got a broken oil pump drive fin on it, so needs repair

and no 2 was in a auto the packed it in, so would need cleaning.

ok then i need some answers as im not an auto person and personallly i wish my car was manual.
last night took the car out for a bit of a cruise and the thing wont stall above 1600rpm which is im guessing what a standard stall would be.
now it used to stall up to like 3500rpm but just brake traction 1/2 throttle at about 2300rpm well the thing just feels like poo off the line with the stall speed like this so i dont want to put a standard stall back in it i wanna get my stally back to what it used to be?
cheers josh.

I'm not quite following. Have you now put a standard converter back in and you're not happy with it, or has your 3500 stally just randomly stopped stalling up so high?

yeah stally has just randomly stopped stalling could this be low oil level i did a service not that long ago and started the car and everything and filled up but i thought maybe it has dropped.
or could it be that the converter has killed itself?
sorry i dont no much about these things and what goes wrong with them.
cheers josh.

So you purchased the stall and had it installed or did you buy the car with it in?

Just cause if you didn't put it in who knows whats in it then, now with my turbo'd ea i had only a standard converter but one of them for some reason went from stalling to 2400 to 1600 by itself and absolutely killed my off the line, it all over a sudden stopped one day and just wouldn't stall over 1600.

Older style converters like in c4-c10 etc, when damaged stall higher and higher as the fin's bend, seems the btr's lower there stall for some reason.

I think your just gonna need to pull it out and send it to someone.

bought the car with it in.
it did it once before but came good again so i didnt think anything of it last time it came good after a bit of a thrashing but didnt last night at all.
foot flat it just sits at 1600rpm and wont even turn the tyres then let go of the brake and it just takes off like its in limp home mode almost then just starts pulling so im guessing thats cause of the cam and intake maybe?
cheers josh.

you should be able to still drive it around fine until you can afford to get it repair, and yes they are repairable, just don't go holding it down trying to get it to stall or anything, cause if you need the car and it goes completely then it isn't going to be driving anywhere.

a normal touque converter clean and service is $100, it sounds like the stator clutch has seized in it, in which case being that your stall is already hi stalled and so on, i wouldn't expect it to cost a lot but who knows it may be stuffed and require replacing,

this is why it can good and then not, but basically the converter won't be working properly at all as it is responsible for the internal control over the converter, changing oil flow direction on take off, and can cause it to run hotter and so on, so be careful with driving it around, as i said no stalling it up and drive it nice.

oh that $100 is you taking the converter in yourself, if you have to pay someone to remove/reinstall it, then it'll probably be an extra $300 i'd say.

I personally wouldn't pull out it to do it unless i had enough money to purchase a new one, if worst case senario came thru.

With the stator its a moving part and they seize cause the area around it has worn wrong or is damaged, so as i said who knows, it could clean up with a hone or something, i have no idea really im no touque converter specialists, i just no a little about their operation as we make some parts for them.

Not sure i dealt with TCT last time, good stall, can't comment on price cause it was a 4500 for c10 not a btr which are more expensive.

My advice to you is to not go for the cheaper option, make sure its furnace brazed, has roller bearings installed etc. etc do some reasearch first at different places, cause their is a fair bit that is changeable to improve strenght and reliability.

yes im sure, mine stalls to 2500, flares to nearly 3000 when i stomp it at the lights, if you have more touque then it will stall higher.V8's had higher stall than the 6's factory, 6 is 2000-2200 and v8's 2200-2400.Not all of them will be correct, there is variations in production and so on, also apparently the s5 solonoid can vary the stall rate a little too, according to my ford book, haven't tried anything with it myself.

I wouldn't necessarilly go and buy a new hi stall, take yours in first, i mean since yours is already a hi stall, it may have been machine for roller bearings etc, which could be a lot cheaper to do yours.

As for one of the converters, i'll have to get back to, have to find them first, since moving to romsey 3months ago i can't seem to find half the things i had.

Sorry i haven't got back to you on the standard converter yet, just haven't had time to go thru the shed and dig it out yet, its definetly their, i purchased it brand new with an auto from ford, I broke the sprag clutch in the auto so thats why it all came out, probably only did 30,000km's with it.

Being just the sprag that broke the converter wouldn't need cleaning, but i can't remember if that one destroyed clutch's or not, so i wanna go thru the box and check it first for you. Its all sitting in bits in a box with the plan of rebuilding it for a spare, but probably won't get around to doing until i need it. But that being the case, for the converter i would have to get $100 for it, otherwise i may as well keep it as spare.
