So guys what do you think about the new focus ad where they compare it to Corolla, Lancer and Mazda 3?
I couldn't find it on youtube yet.

I hope they are advertising it as the best handling Small Car. Neither Corolla or Mazda3 hold a candle to it in that sense.
Ford have great cars, they just can't advertise them. Toyota is the opposite (to a degree). I'll keep an eye out for the ad.

Paxton, it may surprise you to learn that the 3 and the Focus are very very similar in terms of suspension. In fact they handle almost identically ( yes I have driven both, I own a 3 now). The differences between the 3 and the Focus are not that great. They share a *lot* of components.
But Ford's ad should also point out how bad their South African factory is and that your hatch will probably leak... Looking at the Focus forum before buying a car certainly made me wise up. I have no doubt it will get better when they start making them here but even the Falcon has its share of factory f-ups. I consider the 3 what the Focus could have been had Ford not decided to build it in a 3rd world sh-thole.

3 is based on the Focus platform as is the Volvo S40. All share the C1 platform ( i think thats the name of it). Only minor adjustments made by each company.
Focus definately the best handler out of the three, not to say the others are bad. Mazda and Volvo are the better screwed together cars. Although my Focus is made in Germany so I can't comment on the SA ones. Ford should drive the comparison with the Corolla, for the same price you get more power and full IRS, better handling, etc. Push the rally involvement, the euro awards and sales, etc. Last edited by Wretched; 21-09-2008 at 09:37 PM. |

Just saw the ad on SBS, pretty good, nice and simple and tells you what the car is about, now if they can repeat this feat with Falcon and Territory.

Found the website with the ad
FOCUSFACTS I reckon Ford marketing department was buy with this for the last 6 months and couldn't do the falcon properly- they probably left it for the TAFE student, the same one then went to honda and did their flying guy ad

Ford has got very little positive brand loyalty at the moment, and very little recognition at all among small car buyers. It is seen as the falcon car company by many people, 'they just make falcon taxis' etc. This will make them think that actually ford might build ok small cars, should look into that. If it is 'better' according to the ad then all those 'well known' small cars then i should look into it. This is most likely the start of the new osbourne-related advertising, about tieing all the individual car models together. The 'choose wisely' tagline has turned up on newer falcon ads, and now on the focus ad, so probably will be the new tag line on all ford ads..... If people actually consider buying a ford, then i think sales will increase. The focus might not be perfect, but it deserves a shed load more sales then it gets currently. Certainly should equal the mazda 3 imo (yes even if it is not quite as well built), and why a private buyer would get a corolla instead is sheer lunacy..... :

Just had a look at the website - I think it's stupid campaign and it's splitting hairs.
Have a look at the "base model slagging match" comparison chart for instance - 7 ticks for the Focus vs 7 Ticks for Corolla Vs 8 Ticks for the Mazda 3 vs 10 ticks for the Lancer ES. Are we trying to sell Focii or Lancers here? Everything that the Focus is trying to proclaim that it has over the other cars is either already fitted or an options pack on the other cars. The other manufacturers will be able to blow the focus campaign out of the water by adding a few limited addition options package campaigns. |

New ad, new website for the Ford homepage, and a new focus facts website
I like! Great work Ford, all you've got to do is have ppl consider the focus, get bums on seats for test drives, and hopefully result in more sales Nice stuff!

Much better ad, right to the point. Not sure about the pommy chic voice-over?
the new ford website is kinda bland though, I thought the previous one looked much nicer. That blue up the top looks too Microsoft Office for mine... Still, expand the idea across the other products.

I wonder if the Chaser will have a crack at the new ad like the did the old one. Haven't seen the new one yet since I only watch TV that's had the ads removed.

I like the way they used a British voice to push the Euro (designed) angle. For some reason they don't like mentioning that the car is built in South Africa though... (except XR5 – Germany)
