Good evening all,
Just asking for opinions on the 200kw vs 220kw xr8's for modding. Is the 220 worth the extra bucks? And does the 220's factory mods i.e: port matching, fuel system, larger valves, etc help or hinder with, say, a bigger cam or adding a blower? Also i've been searching high and low for pics of one of these that have exhausts on both sides of the rear, just want to see how it's done, how it looks, etc. any links or pics would be great cheers |

exaust can't be done. Fuel tank is in the way. The 220 is worth the extra. Try and buy those extra bits afterwards and it'll cost you more then the little extra for the 220.

I'd actually say it depends on your plans for the car. The 220 has different heads and cam but if you wanted to put aftermarket ones in down the track then it doesnt matter if you get a 200 or 220. I have a 200 (well, it used to be a 200 anyway) and I had no dramas modding it compared to a 220.

I have both 220 sedan and 200 ute both autos & while others will disagree with me the difference between the two is stuff all. While I haven't had them on the dyno or run them down the strip the seat of the pants difference is so close it's hard to tell

b2tf, i wish to add a centrifugal supercharger at 9psi (just bolt-on), and an appropriate cam (i found something on crow cams website that seems to fit the bill). plus the things that go with them, i.e extractors, flash tune, injectors, etc. all other engine components will be stock, so is the 220 better suited to this with it's worked heads? or will a 200 be just fine? the fuel pump/regulator i think MAY need to be upgraded, not sure...all in all, this is nothing too fancy, just want a blown daily drive
On a side note, sucks big monkey that i cant have pipes on both sides. |

The bigger valves of the 220 will probably help a bit with a blower. But so will the higher-ratio rockers you'd be mad not to fit with a cam upgrade. Or even with a stock cam and the blower.

Is the blower-suited cam from crow any better than the stock cam of the 220? just so you all have a better idea on what im talking about, they had a list of cams for EFI windsors incl. stock cam, and this cam im looking at has same lift as stock cam, just different timing. but when crow says stock cam, are they referring to the ye olde 185kw era windsors? in saying that, is the cam in a 220, in a word, identical to this crow cam? or better/worse?

A blower setup will work on either, its just a matter of overall numbers i.e. one might get you higher than another.
The cams side of things - the 220 stocker cam is "smaller" then the 200 spec cam but if you're going to change it anyway it wont matter that much. In all honesty for the work you're looking at doing, for me it would come down to what I could find at the time - ie if you find a nice 200 go for it, if you find a 220 go for it.

i have seen a series 3 with exhaust out each side and it looked awesome the passenger side pipe was heat wrapped and ran inside the rear bumper and bent out under the other side sorry no pics

Mate get a 200kw and do a few things to it..... In short worth the extra $$$ NO?!
The 220kw got 1.72 YT roller rockers, the 200kw had 1.6 cranes, the 220kw got a tickford 70mm T/B, So for 20kw which decent exhaust can fetch, get a set of 1.72 RR's a 70mm T/B, the camshaft in the 200kw is actually bigger than the 220kw cam... So i think the few grand saved on purchase price you could spend on a 200kw flash tuner, extractors etc and kill a 220kw |

You can go backwards and forwards between the 2 following the same argument as above but at the end of the day the thing that is going to make the difference to EITHER version is the mods that you do. Now a blower is not exactly what I would call a 'bolt on" mod so you can't compare it to anything unless it's another blower. I still stick with what I said above - find whichever version has the most options ticked, is in the best condition and is the right price and buy it. That's what I would do anyway. At the end of the day it is 20kw which is bugger all if you're talking about forced induction anyway.
The build thread is perfect for the workshop builds section mate and I will look forward to seeing how you go with it all.

Just one more thing I almost forgot, can the auto box in these handle up to 300rwkw (most likely 250rwkw though, i'm not going nuts on it) without modification?
