Default TOP GEAR LIVE - What a fake?

Has anybody seen this.........Buggers had me convinced.

Turns out due to the TOUGH ecomonical climate, the Top Gear Live Ferrari 360's where tartied up Toyota MR2's. Funny stuff.

hmm I wasn't there, however I cant see Top Gear going to all that trouble (changing the looks, size, engine note etc) to mimick a Ferrari - cost doesnt seem to be an issue with these guys its a massively popular show. Not to mention possible legal ramifications with Ferrari (dont think they would be impressed, with MR'2 being dressed up to look like a 360) But I could be wrong

Ferrari 360 is much wider than an MR2, surely they couldn't fool a stadium full of car nuts that easily?

I wasn't there, but 3 forums all had "I couldn't hear the Ferraris over the music" posts in the days after the event.

I COULDN'T HEAR THE FERRARIS OVER THE MUSIC!

Regardless of what the cars are/were, the driving was still fantabulous...

The only car that you could hear was the Lotus when the Stig was holding it on the rev limiter at the end of his little play.

i WAS AT THE aUCKLAND SHOW AND they were announced as ferraris, Im no ferrari trainspotter so I just assumed they were real. MR2s are commonly used for ferrari mock ups.

Id be interested to know the answer and the explanation why.

Im thinking its the yellow one only due to the wheels

I couldnt care if they were fake anyhow, was a good show regardless, i could imagine no one wanting to lend them 3 360's to thrash aroudn the arena anyhow.

Dan youll find that pic you posted a pretty poor representation of a kit car as well, there are way better ones out there

I saw the show and did not pick up on it... a mate of mine said its a shame they played the music loud over the cars and we thought it was part of the show... to me they looked like the real deal. i was far back so i didnt get an up close and personal view... Either way the drivers did a good job and entertained the crowd.. at the end of the day cars are cars and there is only so much u can do in a small area like accer..

I was at one of the Sydney shows. They sure did a great job on the interior of the toyotas.... tan leather, ferrari steering wheels. You could see all that from 4 rows back.

On another note...
The Gallardo, Audi R8, Lotus exige, W427, GTS, Mustang, and two V8 Utes were all real, all loud, and all very awesome.

Apparently Ferrari aint happy.

http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...3:05-3_ferrari

Quote:
Supercar maker Ferrari tells Top Gear Live car show to use real Ferraris rather than re-bodied Toyotas. TOBY HAGON reports.

Ferrari has requested the organisers of Top Gear Live to stop using fake Ferraris in its shows.

The approach came following an exclusive Drive.com.au story that revealed the controversial move to supplement $400,000 Ferraris with Toyotas re-bodied to look like Ferraris in a stunt-driving series where three cars are often in close contact.

Speaking at the Geneva motor show, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said it was important to protect the brand and, as a consequence, the company had spoken to the Top Gear Live show’s organisers from the BBC.

A spokesman for Ferrari said Top Gear Live had admitted to using fake Ferraris.

“We asked them to change it … for the Hong Kong [Top Gear Live] show (the last stop on the world tour),” said the spokesman. “We said ‘please use real Ferraris’.”

The head of communications for home entertainment at the BBC Worldwide, Philip Fleming, stopped short of admitting the ‘Ferraris’ used in the Sydney and New Zealand shows were fake.

“Top Gear Live is a mix of the usual Top Gear fooling around, exotic cars and extremely exciting, live-action stunt driving,” said Fleming in a statement. “Stunt driving requires highly specialist equipment. In this sense Top Gear Live is no different from any cinema or theatrical production.

However, in the same way that magicians never divulge their secrets – we also don’t want to spoil the enjoyment and impact of the sequence by revealing how it’s done.”

Fleming says the BBC has been in contact with Ferrari since the publication of the Drive.com.au story.

“Yes, we have been in contact with Ferrari recently,” he said.

“However, it's important to point out that the Hong Kong show was tailored for the local audience and we actually used drift cars [not Ferraris or lookalike Ferraris] for the sequence in question.”

There would have to be some legal ramifications about advertising TopGear Live using real 360's but not using them?

Possible to fool some of the people some of the time for sure, but the sound in that Youtube clip is not even remotely Ferrari like.

I take it the convertible in the pic above is the fake, it has a different windscreen angle.
