Default keeping cats off cars !

Hey fellas..

this may seem like an unusual topic but does anyone have any good suggestions or may have found good solutions to keepin your pet cats from jumping all over your car and potentially scratching it?

Mine tends to jump onto the bonnet everytime i come home since its warm.

I've got a permanent solution however it mightn't be what your after seeing as its your pet cat.

Maybe try making a warm place for it else where, or just constantly shoo it off and maybe it will learn not too.

this thread wont last long. but, i have an inside only cat hence why i dont have this problem, my old cat did it once and i yelled at the top of my voice and tapped it on the nose. never got up there again, but then again that cat was trained that if u tapped its nose it knew it wasnt doing what it was supposed to

Put some hot pepper over the car when you park it when the cat smells it (inhales it) or trys to lick it off it's paws as they do, it will fly off the car and will be reluctant to do it again. No long term harm to the cat apart from a real clear nose and runny eyes and when you drive the car the pepper blows away.

I have other recipies for curried cats if you are interested.......LOL

The car's ECU, if it has one, might not like that though.

Cats seem to do what they want.

Ive tried the last year trying to stop my cat from clawing the couch. Nothing has worked.

You may just have to buy a car cover. Can be a pain in the butt to use everyday, but at least it will protect the car.

Saw this thing on TV once that nicely trims down claws on dogs and cats. This may make the claws not so sharp.

nah seriously just train it that the car is a no-go zone, a little flick on the nose works well.

This is the penalty for jumping on the bonnet of a Ford in our household -

Lesson learnt, stay off the Telstar!!!!

19 years on, they still don't understand -

Seeing that I'm not 2 years old and animal cruelty isn't an option, I found orange skins to be the best tactic. They smell 'em and can't get away fast enough.

This has been done before and has been closed down, In the past I've found a spray bottle full of water can do the trick, a few quick squirts and the cat soon learns to stay away.

Orange/lemon peel
Citronella oil sprinkled around car
1 option to consider is to buy a motion sensor, hook it up to a small water pump/sprinkler when activated to squirt car area.

lol.. all these tactics do sound good but wouldnt u prefer the cat to jump off the car naturally, rather than to get scared... bring its claws out whilst jumping

leaving really bad scratches

in my experience, nothing works. Cats will be cats, and they will keep scratching cars. We just have to man up and take it really, the majority of them are not consciously doing anything malicious.

Anyway yes it's been covered many times, search is your friend ;)

after doing a search myself and realising just how common 'cats' is as a thread topic, i've decided to leave this open, for now. General warning, any reference to promoting animal cruelty will result in immediate thread closure and further action.
