Default Doing the rear springs/shocks tomorrow/friday

Hey guys,

i plan on doing the rear springs/shocks over the next couple of days.

now i helped do them last time, but this time ill be all on my lonesome.

so i just wanted to run it through, is it as easy as just jacking the car up, sticking it on stands, then dropping the top shock mounts and everything falls out???


or do i undo the bottom mounts first?


ill have a look in the workshop manual but just incase someone already knew a quicker/better way to do it to save a bit of hassle if i eff it up!

come on man, GK did a wicked writeup on this....

lol, in all seriousness, you pretty much have it covered i reckon with what you have said above. i'd undo bottom last as you can grab the shock as you undo it. if you undo top first you can lower the whole lot down together

Is it IRS? If it is, I did mine recently and as long as you have the lowered springs in the whole lot should fall out once you undo the top shock nut and lower the jack holding the hub up. The stock springs are too long to do it this way so you'd need spring compressors and remove the whole lot, top shock mount included, and dismantle the strut out of the car. I bought a pnumatic ratchet to do mine and had the second side completed and the car back on it's wheels in less than 15 minutes. ( First side took 45 minutes till I worked out the quick way to do it.) The trickiest part is getting the top of the shock piston shaft at the right angle to slip back up through the hole in the mount.

Well i just printed out the workshop manual page and took it to the garage with me.

i didnt even read it.

the hardest part of the whole excercise was getting the thing onto jackstands using the bloody scissor jack HAHAHA and thats only because the jack stands i have were more designed for 4WD's rather than normal cars, these things are over a foot tall without even extending/raising them.





but yeah i jacked it up, undid the tops, let it down, undid the bottom shock mounts and let the old shocks just fall out, who cares they were rooted. and yeah.

took about 2 hours which i thought was reasonable.

got SSL's + short throw shocks in the rear now. ill do the front next week with SSL's too hopefully if i order the springs/shocks soon and get some spring compressors.
