Car buying conundrum (hypothetical)

Hypothetical situation.

You need a car and have found a sponsoured deal that allows you to get a new car for an extremely low cost but it has rules and restrictions. The car is provided on an interest only basis for 3 years after which it is returned i.e. there is no resale issue.
The interest rate is 10% so if the car is $52000 it will cost you $100 per week plus on-costs.

The rules and restrictions are:

1) No modifications or fitting of non genuine parts whatsoever. (exception tyres but must be same size and equiv cost/quality)
2) Rego, full insurance, fuel, tyres and full factory maintenance at dealer must be paid for by you.
3) You license must be amended to allow you to drive this car only.
4) The car must be new and deliverable within 4 weeks of today.
5) The car's on road price cannot exceed AUD$100,000.
6) The car cannot be a Ford of any description

You have to use then car for everything so a huge V8 ute or sports car is not going to be very good if you have 17 kids.
If you need a work ute for your job then a Mini Cooper S would probably be a bad choice.
If the car has high maintenance costs and you cannot afford $800 a corner tyres and $10,000 brakes then you will also have a problem.
Buying an Audi or BMW when you live in Birdsville would tend to get a bit expensive travelling 4000km for each service.

Any loophole in the rules is auto-closing and if you do not understand the meaning of the word "hypothetical" or cannot comprehend the 6 rules then please don't post.

So think about it, you have a chance to have a nice new car, what would you buy?

Me? As I have had a pretty good run with my 350Z I would probably get a Nissan 370Z or an Audi TT.

$37,000 for a 5 door, 5 seat hatchback. So, plenty of room for my kid and her pram etc, all the mod cons (Leather, sunroof & power everything) and its a manual so it won't be too boring to drive.

Won't cost the earth to maintain & insure and would be quite practical & comfortable as a everyday family car.

The only downside for me is that it is FWD, and would possibly be a let down when you want to have a bit of spirited driving. But that would proberly help with obeying the first rule.


If I had the choice of a Ford it would be the XR5 Mondeo, which is a very similar car to the 6 anyway.

Not sure what the retail on a VE Senator is? Or whether it can be delivered in the 4 weeks?

I'd like to know if you have any rules stipulating the options we're allowed to get put on from factory - ie if ordering brand new like you say we are, do we have to take them "bog stock" as they come, or are we allowed to tick a couple of the boxes provided it still comes in at under the $100k threshold and have it delivered in the 4 weeks?

An Iveco 17 seat minibus. 2.8 turbo diesel 130 hp, at around 30k I could put up with that for 3 years. That would do most any thing and i wouldn't want to mod it, I mean why bother?

Some quite interesting choices and very surprisingly not many V8s. No 300C SRTs or Clubsports or SSs etc.

No little BMWs, Mercs or Lexus either.

I would have to consider a BMW 135, weapon of a car but unfortunately the 335 is out of the price bracket.

I think it might come down tot he test drive but to be honest the Mini Clubman JCW is my favourite. Lots of fun and not everyone has one. Have to remember this will the only car I can drive so it has to be a bit unique and fun.

Subaru Liberty H6 3.0R spec.B. I had the opportunity to buy one of these new a couple of years ago, but I bought a Mazda6 instead.

Alternatively, A PassatCC V6FSI. Out of left field (for me), but seems to be a pretty solid car.

Yeah, but nothing in a sedan suits me anymore! it will tow my camper trailer and stuntbike perfectly! id have to give up my roadbike due to the rules of only one road vehicle, but hey, its not exactly legal for the stuntbike to be on the road and it sees roadtime anyhow lol.

Audi TT or Mazda RX-8. Forgot about the TT at first, to be honest. I'd take an RX-8 in Aurora Blue, like the Lux. Sports 6 link. Seen one getting around town in that colour and couldn't stop staring As for the TT, I'd get one in that grey-blue they come in.
