pass, I am not a fan of the new generation of mazdas. I just can't get used to the look of them, maybe in a year or 2 they'll grow on me

I'd prefer the previous model, that one looks too happy. But they are a pretty good hot hatch.

i have driven the old one, and had a hot lap in it with Dick Johnson, very quick little cars.
The old one looks a million times better than this new one imo.

Nice looking car but I can see just by looking it has a japanese trademark that kills me when i sit in these sorts of cars at Motorshows or go in friends cars and that is; that 6 ft 3+ tall and solid build just dont well with this type of interior design. Beleive it or not Nissan Tida is one of the most comfotable 4's for a big person ive found.
I know this will sound like the bias one would expect on this Forum but to me its getting close to FG XR6T price range which would eat this for christmas dinner but then use more fuel + and - its apples and oranges and therefore hard to compare but I am sure it will do very well. Certainly looks a million times better than a new WRX IMO. |

Way too ugly, IMO. If you wiped the grin off its front end, perhaps it'll look a little better.
I considered the previous model but the torque steer was insane. I can only imagine with it having a few more ponies that it won't be any better in this model. |

The 3 is only a FWD and from what I heard has issues with putting that 190Kw to the ground but they are a hot hatch. |

My brother in law owns the first model MPS 3 - From a roll it is one of the quickest stock cars I have been in (MOTOR actually found it quicker in a roll than a 911 if I remember correctly) but from a standing start the thing has so much torque steer its impossible to get the power to the ground and the computer limits the power/torque in the first few gears = yes I think its too much power for this FWD set up. They are also very expensive when you go for the luxury one pictured with BOSE, leather ect. Is a great car though don't get me wrong.
I think the new ones looks will grow on everyone as it ages a bit - I know I hated the new Mazda 6 when it first came out now its starting to look good. Personally for the money they are asking I think they should have AWD just like the WRX and Lancer Ralliart. They are doing Ralliarts for $39,990 drive away with the DSG gearbox and 5/10 year warranty at the moment - thats a great deal IMO.

Is it just me or does that Black bit on the front there look like a blackhead skin blemish poking through an otherwise nice skin..
I just can not get over these frontends that look like they have been cut off with a saw just to be trendy. Mitsu Lancer, Mazda 2&3, Fiesta, and i am sure there are a few others look terrible to me. It's as if they say, "oh crud, it's too long lets just cut a few inches off the front and put some black stuff behind it and nobody will notice!" No, not for me.

Just reading through some of those specs, one caught my eye. Turning circle = 11m.
Thats the same as an XF! Hell, the wheelbase is only ~200mm shorter than an XF. When did small cars get so damn big! Aside from that I agree about the first one looking better, but these do look nice and nasty too. One of these with the big brothers AWD would be an absolute monster. C'mon Ford, rebadge a Mazda again. :evil3: |

Fast car should look angry, not smiley.
Don't like it's face. Other than that it looks to be the goods.

I'd prefer the Focus XR5 Turbo over the new MPS. The front end of the new 3's are a deal breaker for me.

Hmm pretty cool, but as above, nothing beats the FG XR6T for value around that price.
There was a concept car not long ago that mazda did with the "gills" on that front end, I think its great that they are bringing that through the range. One thing that annoys me about the new mazdas is the rear end, it might look ok in photos but in person its awkward.

Re the turning circle, it would be due to the LSD. I had a Pulsar Vector SSS a number of years ago which had an LSD and also had a huge turning circle.
Does anyone know how much these things weigh? |

Put me down also as preferring the previous model styling, this is almost a caricature of that model and takes it too far in my opinion. It is too "gimmicky". |

it looks like a smiling 350z with a hat ontop to me, regardless of speed I don't like that curved down almost AU style nose, and that smile screams "lets do lunch, then go shopping"
if its got the punch it needs the attitude, this car is all wrong kinda like a hungry bear that looks like Hugh Grant - looks wimpy and unassuming, but let your guard down and it will rip your face off. - very commendable attempt mazda you are close.

No thanks. Preferred the first generation. The whole thing looks awkward.
If I had to have a hatchback it'd be the XR5 or the new Lancer.

So the XR6T at 5.2 secs to 100 is a just little quicker yet the MPS flogs it point to point? Yeah right. What point to point are you talking about? If you are taliking a lap of Bathurst or Sandown etc I reckon the XR6T would do a lap 4 or 5 secs quicker and obviousley closer if a tighter track but you would want to have very grippy tires on the front of the Mazda. I wouldnt worry about about the seat of the pants feel to be honest Have you ever driven a Z3 or Z4 Roadster back to back against an M3? The Roadster feels like its about 2 secs faster to 100 or qtr mile but it is not if any quicker. |
