Question First To See Will Buy!

OK, just shopping around for a temp daily driver and I came accross a car of interest and in their advert they have "First To See Will Buy".

I personally hate this particular ploy or strategy people use to sell their cars becasue it's pure woffles and the easiest to catch them out with.

So the point of this thread is to see what sort strategies or tactics have been used against you when buying a car.

Or any similar experiences that you would like to share.

i've personally used that slogan because i genuinely believed it to be true. on more than one occasion it has turned out to be the case. 1st to see - bought.

i take very good care of my cars and the hardest part of selling them is getting someone to come and look. every car i've sold i've been reasonably confident that if i could get someone to at least come around i'd have a pretty good chance of selling. my problem is i'm too honest a lot of the time.

The one that annoys me the most "this is the hamburger with the lot" "this one has all the fruit" when the car is missing multiple options. Annoys the crap out of me.

Chris, I don't think it's a "ploy" so much as a fair strategy. If the first to see wishes to purchase, then it's justified. The whole reason they do it is a quick sale. Their reason is their own. I agree to an extent(the people who try to flog you rubbish asap and see you never), but not everyone is a conman.

Maybe next time you advertise a car you could say, 'first one to see the last one bought it'

If you honestly think that the first person to come along to take a look at the car will buy it, then why not state that?

They want to sell the car(s) so if people think putting that in the advertisment will help with a sale then they will continue to do so.

If I saw a car advertised as "Driven by a woman only" not sure I would go and look at it. I am a woman...and I KNOW how I drive...

That's what i was thinking. The dead giveaway for this is both wheels on the left missing chunks of alloy and scratched 360 degrees around, just like my wifes car.

Top of the line on a base model XT/Executive/Whatever

1 Owner- Which turns out to be 1 family owner, which evolves into car was sold to 17yo nephew.

And my absolute favourite when inspecting old cars. "No Rust". Open the doors- rust, look around the screens- rust, under the boot carpet- rust.

I just bought a car, was advertised with "Full log books".

Log books meant the instruction pamphlet for the radio....

If it didn't have such low kays, I would have told them where to go for wasting my time.

Car was advertised as being serviced, log book was stamped with dealerships stamps too.
But a call to the service dept revealed the car hadn't been there in 4 years!

After some questioning I found out the girls brother was a mechanic there.
I asked if they approved of there business name being used like that they said he is a good mechanic and its up to you if you buy the car!

A couple of years ago....I was frequenting some second hand car yards with a mate who was looking to buy a small run around car for his daughter who was about to get her drivers licence.

We found ourselves in one particular car yard that had all second hand cars, and they where tying baloons to some of them...

Todays special....first to see will buy....etc the usual stuff.

Yet most of these cars look liked they had been intercepted by the this car dealer, at the wreckers Yard gate .... as in just before they entered the wrecking yard !!!

They where terrible....we walked off laughing to ourselves.

Thumbs down Bad sales pitch

The worst one I think is "best offer accepted" so if I offer $50 for a BA Ghia they will take it I think not
also "make me an offer" yeah right
and last dealer has sign up saying cars wanted all types
the first thing they ask how much do you want
or we are not interested in that sort of car
John

how is $50 going to be anywhere near 'best offer'?? i don't think it refers to your best offer, but the best offer given to the seller by all.

I love how everything is always "immaculate." It's like people can't come up with new words, every ad just blends in with every other immaculate car.

Female driver hey...? So its been washed twice in 10 years... been running round low on oil & water, under inflated tyres, played dodgem cars at every supermarket, possibly had children puking on the seats.... Serviced by dad every few years and loves having drinks spilled on the seats by drunk friends. I generalise... but generally... generalisations are true! I would prefer a car owned by a bloke that loved the car and knew how to look after it!

...wait for it... :togo:
